CCTV On Street House

My house is physically on the footpath with no garden etc. Lately I'm constantly plagued with kids knocking my door and windows and running off. Today I think one of them kicked my door. Can I point a camera on my door as it would be recording everyone walking up the road?

I don't think the likes of a Ring doorbell would work due to the location.

I have CCTV covering my drive to the side of the house which partially catches them running away after the deed.

It's very annoying over the last few months.

Have you read the link you posted?

There is no issue with what the op wants to do as long as they adhere to some very simple regulations.

But even the installation of an unconnected camera will probably be enough of a deterrent.

Kids know the law can't do jack, camera or no camera. Likely they'll simply arrive at night and cover their faces with hoodies.

It is no problem as the op will not be covering any private areas.

The regulations for what they want to do are extremely easy to comply with.

If there is a problem with recording public areas then nearly every smart door bell in the country is non compliant.

It's not that sinister. It's a community of new arrivals who don't seem to understand the social norms here.

I get the gist of the regulations per that link posted. Basically GDPR applies if recording a public space like that. I can work with that.

It only becomes a problem if someone complains about their data been recorded and reports you.

The data commissioner will make you take it down, no ifs and buts about it.

Its not.I have complained to the Data Protection Office about a privately owned CCTV installed on a public lighting lampost pointing at the street but supposedly protecting a cul de sac entrance.I was told DPO had no problem with it but contact the local council if I was concerned(council is responsible for street lighting-told no problem by them)ESB Networks did not respond.The council did not seem interested in the fact that public property was being used/damaged by a private operation-maybe too much effort,paperwork,reports.....................tea getting cold.................................................

Covering the public footpath is what complicates it.

In theory any passer by can make a data subject access request for copies of them passing by and the OP is obliged to provide.

Very strange. DPC does seem to be reluctant to act on prevention.

I wonder if you requested a copy of your images from the data controller, and then reported them to the DPC when they fail to comply, would they act?

Did not approach the house where cable enters.I suppose I could just to see what happens.That would be another route to take to see if DP office acts.Will consider it

There is no notice.So camera there is an accident.It climbed up the lampost of its own accord.I see a lot of cameras with no notices around the country.

I've experience with GDPR in other areas so I'd have no problem having a data policy in compliance with the legislation and practices to minimise potential issues etc.
