Navan man shows how to deal with car thief and burglars

Footage of an alleged car thief being attacked by an irate van owner has racked up thousands of views on social media.

In the shocking incident, which lasts three minutes and took place last Tuesday night in Navan, a man in an orange shirt is seen approaching a white van, he leans in the window and screams at the man inside, 'Open my van now, open my van now'.

When the drivers door opens he begins raining punches on the much smaller man inside, and roars, 'Who the f**k are you, who the f**k are you, get out of my f*****g van' before dragging him out of the van throwing him on the floor and proceeding to kick him about the head and body,

Sickeningly he appears to continue stamping on his victim when he is already out cold and cold bloodedly uses a stick to continue the beating before picking him up and throwing him on the grass verge,

A voice can then be heard to shout, 'Leave the c**t where he is' at which point the assailant momentarily walks away.

Incredibly he then returns and appears to rifle through the unconscious mans pockets, and can clearly be seen taking things from them and appearing to place them in his own pocket.

He then bends down and removes the knocked out mans shoes placing them in his van before another man arrives on the scene along with a female.

The two men then appear to briefly check on the stricken mans condition before grabbing an arm each and dragging him away from where the attack happened.

One source revealed, 'The guy ended up in hospital, it was an over reaction when he saw him in his van, he went a bit too far.

Unfortunately when the van owner is identified he'll almost certainly end up doing time. In modern Ireland only scumbags are allowed to beat someone unconcious with no consequences. Decent working people who fall foul of the law always have to be made an example of.

He could have just got him out of the van and called the Garda.

It’s never ok to beat someone unconscious and the law would agree. Unless you can prove you were acting in self defence.

I know people that stupidly stole cars when they were younger that have completely turned their lives around.

It’s a crime that you should be punished for, not killed.

Harsh, yes. Understandable, yes.

This isn't someone breaking into the headquarters of a faceless multinational office building - this man is likely self employed. If my office is broken into, I still get paid. If his van is broken into, he might be luck to get jobseekers.

He and his family's quality of life likely depend very heavily on the tools inside that van, so it's absolutely no surprise that he sees someone breaking into his van as a serious and personal threat and reacted strongly.

I normally wouldn't condone it but when there is no legal consequences then citizens take the law into their own hands.

You call the Gardaí and then what? They eventually come and take the guy away and he is back in an hour to break into the van again. When you have people walking around with 100s of convictions and honest citizens cannot get satisfaction from the law then the system is broken.

I can sympathise with a person's frustration who is the victim of a crime as they have very little recourse.

Thieves get away with murder in this country. It’s satisfying every now and again to see one get battered or barbecued alive after crashing trying to outrun the guards . If he dies it’s one less toerag

I haven’t watched the video as I don’t want to see a man beaten to within an inch of his life, while unconscious for a lot of it by the sounds of the OP.

Who was doing the filming? A random passer-by or someone close to the van owner?

If this was a video I seen last week, it looked like a mannequin or dummy when the guy dragged it out of the car and threw it on the grass. Is this the video being talked about?

I expect this shocking behaviour to be broadcast all over the news and that something needs to be done about decent hard working people attacking criminals.

Its not the criminals fault that he doesn’t get enough free handouts already, its the hard working peoples fault that they don’t work more to pay more tax so that more amenities can be built for them.

A better result than another meaningless conviction as far as I am concerned.

Van owner protecting his family and property. He worked hard for and paid. . I have an item so when scummy bag want to break into my house with my daughters sleeping or want to take my vehicle that I use for work rest and play. They will not have much of a future.
