How do u remove the smell of smoke from a carpet lined bedroom?

Anyone any tips or method that worked for them.

Tried the carpet nuteralizer and hoovered but didn't make the difference I was hoping for.

You could rent an ozone machine. Car dealers will use them to remove smoke smell from cars.

If the person has smoked in that bedroom for years then it will be embedded in fabric of the room & be very hard to remove without ozone machine.

+1 for ozone machine. Used in hospitality all the time to remove smoke odours from rooms.

Worth remembering that ozone is hazardous and is effectively a gaseous bleach. It can damage fabrics and finishes.

Try bread soda and leave as long as possible before vacuuming.

Shampoo the carpet with a rented carpet washer.

Wash the walls, skirting, ceilings, and any other surfaces with any kind of detergent

    Wash any soft furnishings well

ozone machine works well but really, if the room stinks, all surfaces need a wash anyway, especially carpets

Use bread soda on the mattress too.

For hard surfaces try adding 4 large tablespoons each of white vinegar and fairy to a spray bottle of warm water. Add lemon juice for a nicer smell. Also add a cup of white vinegar to the wash when washing curtains, bed-linen or smoky clothing.

    Thanks for all the suggestions.

Would an air dehumidifier work just as well as an azone?

Any chance you can replace the carpet? If not, I second the bread soda, it does work.

I would use the bread soda first, and then after a couple of days use a carpet cleaner - you used to be able to rent "The Rug Doctor" from B&Q , see if you still can. (yes, you still can, at a cost of €26.95 for 24 hours or €32.95 for 48 hours for the standard machine).

Wash all other surfaces and soft furnishings like curtains, cushions etc.

Also buy yourself an air purifier. Levoit do some very reasonably priced ones on Amazon.

They are great for keeping the air fresh, and really reduce dust as well.

Try a catalytic fragrance lamp. It neutralises bad odour

We left a pizza in the oven and forgot about it. Burnt to a cinder. Dreadful lingering smell of smoke. Two sessions with a lamp after a good clean down got rid of all burning smell.

The chances are the smoke is on the wall and ceiling rather than the carpet. So sugar soap wash down on all hard surfaces too.

Not that I know of, but maybe other hire shops in your county would have it or other carpet shampooers.

The rug doctor is generally in Tesco and woodies as well

No. An ozone generator creates a gas that reacts with the odour causing compounds in the fabrics and on the surfaces. A dehumidifier only lowers the amount of moisture in the air.

An ozone generator does work the best in low humidity though.

Generators are fairly cheap these days. €60 from vevor
