Parts of Dublin below sea level?

Just wondering, are parts of Dublin below sea level?

Certainly not the inner city, but in some parts? I am thinking of Sandymount, around Sydney Parade Avenue and Richelieu Park. This area seems very low in elevation?

Depends how high the sea level is.

There are plenty of elevation maps online. Most of Sandymount is about 2m above sea level.

There is a standard datum to which all spot heights are aligned. However that was calculated at Malin Head in 1969 so if sea levels are rising it might be out of date.

Thanks for the map. It was probably an optical illusion to me ( not after a pub visit ). The area around around Sydney Parade Avenue and Richelieu Park seemed below, during high tide.

I think the only place in Ireland that is currently below sea level is part of the North Slobs nature reserve in County Wexford, just north of Wexford Harbour.

In relation to parts of Dublin below sea level, bump this thread in 50 years time and there may well be... 😬🌊🌊

A good chunk of the city centre is land reclaimed from the sea. If we genuinely start to see significant rises in sea level, there are parts of dublin that would require significant protection.
