Driving in NI...

Will be driving in Northern Ireland next week. Have most of the apps for charging in the South. Will they work in the North? Eg ecars, Ionity, Applegreen, EasyGo..............

Or do I have to find UK networks and go through the whole thing again of new apps, etc?

    Thanks

Ionity, Ecars, (possibly easygo) will all work up north.

my experience, since 2017, is bad for NI charging so I would not be getting to turtle mode as you approach a charger

    ICE parking a big problem

    as is long term plugins

    damaged units

    etc

My experiences in the South have been generally favorable. But looking Plugshare, the North seems a different beast altogether

NI has for years been underdeveloped from a charging standpoint, so there's unfortunately a lot of chargers there that were broken and few new chargers were being added

That's starting the change thankfully, if you're heading towards Belfast then there's probably enough working chargers en route to be confident, further west might be a bit more dicey

There's a decent few hubs in the pipeline between Ionity and Fastned, just wish they'd pull the finger out and get them built

ESB eCars, EasyGo, Weev work with the same app/RFID/fob as in the south. I don't think there an Ionity live in the North yet? I could be wrong...

Maxol Kinnegar (NE Belfast) works with credit card (great location). BP pulse (extremely expensive) works with Google pay but large pre-authorisation of £50 I think, so won't tap with Irish cards if the limit is €50.

Check closing times, lots of locations are normal business hours and not 24/7.

All 3 Ionity sites in NI are still under construction

Two of them started 6 months ago according to the tracker, they could do with pulling the finger out

My trip now likely be Naas to Limavady and back. Looking a BP Pulse charging, don't seem to need app. Doesn't allow me to download the app anyways. Same for My Weev, can't download the app. Install is greyed out, might be something to do with being in the Republic.

Plugshare and ABRP are very good for planning. And Google maps.

Apologies, just reading CivilEx post now. Didn't see it before making my recent posts.

Plenty of good advice here. I'll add that ZapMap is pretty much up to date now for DC chargers.

Yeah BP Pulse you'll need either Google Pay, Apple Pay, or Revolut. If you have a manufacturer card then maybe use that as I've found RFID cards to be easy to use They're good chargers supplying great speeds, but some of them can be a bit unreliable. The worst ones are the two in Derry and the one at Lurgan.

For Weev, try the ePower app. They're interchangeable.

You can use ESB ecars and EasyGo from your normal app or card. Not many ESB DC chargers in NI. Quite a few EasyGo but not well distributed. There's 4 in Newry though that might be useful. 2 BP Pulse in Banbridge are available.

2 Ionity sites are built and awaiting grid connection. The one at Toome would be good for you but it's probably unlikely to be ready. Check the app before you go though!

Lots of good information on here, thanks. Installing the EPower app on my phone at the moment, some of these chargers in the Republic also, handy to have anyway.
