Just leave 6 music alone please!! They've done enough damage already.

But the article doesn't say too much about the Radio 2 spin off ??

Here is more information re the radio 2 spin off station!

Does this mean Radio 2 on FM will have even more recent music on their playlist?

If so, I expect older presenters such as Johnnie Walker, Elaine Paige, Tony Blackburn, Gary Davies will be moved to Radio 2 "on line" spin off station only...lets hope not !!

But wouldn't it make more sense if Radio 2 went back to playing music from 50s to 80s on FM (for traditional, older listeners) and keep the more recent 90s to 2020s music for the "on line" spin off ?

Reading the article, no. It’s music from 50s-70s for the spin off. As it is there is very little 70s music on daytime Radio 2 anyway. They want to get back since if the audience they lost after the revamp lately.

my point was, why dont they re-focus older music (50s to 80s) on the existing FM service and reverse the re-vamp ?

Because they are after the just too old for R1 listener and 50 to 70s music would be more for the 50 years old or more listener I reckon!

The success of Boom radio has opened their eyes that there is a core of listeners not being catered for on BBC radio now since R2s revamp!

Yes, but do it on FM !!!!!!!!! not just on- line

I think the main R2 FM will be targetted toward the older listener who listened to R1 up to recently and the 50s to 70s era listener will be seen as a smaller niche market!

the older listener who grew up in the 60s, 70s and 80s will still tend to listen on 88 to 91 FM

why shove this group to an on-line service?

I was born in 1966 and loved R2 up until a few years ago but I cant listen to it now as the music from 2000 onwards just isnt to my taste! So they are targetting that younger listener who sre to old for R1 but not old enough to be interested in 60s to 70s music, which is now seen a smaller niche market so couldnt justify putting it on FM. Its the same here with the lobby to get RTE Gold on FM,not a big enough market!

the problem is that the days of that audience existing are coming to an end, if they haven't already.

where there would have been musical differences between someone born in the 90s, 80s, 70s ETC, the differences between someone born in the 2000s, and definitely the 2010s and 2020s, are not really there now.

of course not everyone likes the same music styles so there will be deviations.

I'm very highly educated. I know words, i have the best words, nobody has better words then me.

It's intended to be on DAB+. DAB has really taken off in the UK now, so it's almost as good as being on FM. Boom Radio is on DAB and is doing very well indeed.

R2 realise letting steve wright go from afternoons in late 2022 was a mistake.

As well as his long running Sunday love songs, they've since given him Pick of the Pops on saturday. He also filled in for Jo Whiley during the summer for 1 week.

I expect he'll have a daily show on the new R2 Digital.

At the time he was dropped Ford I’d have agreed. I still do to an extent. There was nothing wrong with his show and he is very good at what he does. I wasn’t enamoured at the prospect of Scott Mills But he has worn me over. The music age profile has changed, that’s for sure. There is still a good mix however.Mills is also great at what he does So it’s really isn’t a step down in quality. I think the real issue is that BBC radio has a lot of high quality on air talent so I suppose it’s a juggling exercise for them.

  • I notice the title of the article mentions "DAB+" and not just DAB. Interesting that the Beeb may use the newer standard considering their current output is DAB only.
