Missing loads of calls on my Three service

Anyone having issues with 3 Ireland service - I'm missing lots of calls, and then about an hour later getting a text from 3 saying I missed the call, but no record of it in my missed calls list!

Probably an outage on your local base-station.....Now wouldn't WiFi Calling be useful!

Rang them and they "reset" my setup or something, seems to have worked. But my other half is on 48 (also on the 3 network I think) with same problem, and can't ring 3, and I'm guessing 48 won't be able to do anything!

Still missing calls. Rang 3 - got agent and explained 50% of calls not coming in, just going straight to voicemail. He said he'd extend the ring time before voicemail. Told him no, I'm not getting the calls at all, it's not that I am slow answering. My wife on 48 same issue. He says he's changed the setting to "allow me get calls I'm not getting". Chríst. God knows what setting that is!

Given that it’s you and your wife’s phones it’s almost certainly the tower near you. Agents like that should be sacked from their jobs.

I have the same on Vodafone, although it hasn't happened quite so much lately (although I get so few calls it's kind of hard to tell)

But the same thing - no call comes through, no record of a missed call, just a text message to say either missed call or a voicemail is available.

I have also had a good few instances of ringing a number and just nothing happens and eventually the call cuts off. No "this person is unavailable" or "line busy" - just silence, nothing.

How can you tell if it's your network or the phone? Mine is a new Galaxy S23, so I'm assuming it's not the handset, but I can't even bear the thoughts of trying to raise the issue with VF 🙄

If it’s been happening since you ported your number from another network then it could be that the port wasn’t performed correctly and they need to update the routing tables. If it’s something that wasn’t an issue and is only recent then it’s something else. Likely a problem with local mast.

On to them now on the webchat and they are insisting that I activate the lengthening of the number of seconds before calls divert to voicemail. I've explained 3 times that my wife has same issue on 48, and that it must be local tower, as I am getting half the calls, and not getting the other half of calls, so it can't be a divert issue.

Now just asked me for make and model of my phone.

I've been with VF for at least 10 years so it's nothing to do with porting.

Only a problem since I upgraded my handset in the last year.

Have you data roaming switched off by any chance? This should switched on in order for your phone to be able to connect to all the masts even while at home in ROI

Nope, switched on.

The irony is, I switched way back when because I had such a nightmare with coverage on 3 - to the extent that they actually let me out of contract over a year early. I switched to Vodafone and am paying them a relative fortune for their coverage and reliability - both of which seems to be going to the dogs lately, along with their customer service a long time ago - but I'm still afraid of my life to change again in case it gets even worse again!

Do you live in an A-Rated house with foil cladding and recent double/triple glazing? Your house may be stopping the mobile signals getting in. You should switch on WiFi calling on your handset. This will route the calls over WiFi bypassing the local towers, so it will prove if you have a problem with the mobile network between your home and the nearest tower. It is also possible that you were relying on 3G for voice calls, and that your network has migrated 3G channel capacity to 4G/5G. If so, and if you are not using WiFi Calling, you need to make sure that you have adequate 4G/5G signal, and that you have VOLTE enabled (Voice over LTE).

Three may have re-allocated 3G channel capacity to 4G/5G, leaving 2G/3G congested. You need to make sure that your phones are using VOLTE (Voice over 4G/5G).

I've just done it to try, it's under "4g calling" which is same as Volte seemingly..

You have wifi calling enabled there. That's the phone + wifi icon.

I'd turn that off an see how you get on.

For me, on a different network, I know my phone does not ring for as long before diverting to voicemail over VoWIFI.

Although I somehow doubt that'll make any difference - like the other poster I wasn't getting the calls at all, just the text saying a voicemail was avl.

VPN could also be interfering with wifi calling.

This setting is not relevant when you are in your home country - only when you are roaming. Sometimes automatic selects a bad network, and manual can be used to over-ride it. When you are at home you only have access to your own network.

It is relevant here too. If not enabled you won’t have access to all available masts. Certainly the case with 3 since you needed to roam on the ex-02 masts.

It could make a big difference. When WiFi calling is on, your calls are routed via your home WiFi and. When WiFi calling is off, your calls are routed via your mobile operator towers. If the calls are not working on WiFi Calling, then you may have poor quality WiFi at home, or Vodafone may have congestion on their WiFi calling service. WiFi calling requires very high quality WiFi both upstream and downstream. At least you should be able to fix this yourself. If the problem is on the Vodafone side, it could be harder to get a fix, but it is still important that you narrow the problem down to occurring either when WiFi calling is on or not.

ok - I'll take your word on it. It is 9 years since Three took over O2 - I assumed they would long since have retired the O2 network? Roaming is not required on Eir or Vodafone when in Ireland.

They “merged” the networks about 2 years ago but I wouldn’t be couldn’t be sure you don’t still need roaming enabled. Fair point about Vodafone and eir though. I’m not sure if there’s any advantage or not having it enabled on these networks. I keep it enabled just to be sure.

that's a good point on the VPN and will complicate it further.

@HeidiHeidi what are you VPN'd to? it won't now anyway with VoWIFI off.

I only have a VPN app installed, it's not connected or in use (except occasionally to get BBC iplayer)

I think it's in use if the key is in the status bar,

see the key only appears in mine when I turn on my VPN

Unrelated I know, but Vodafone’s WiFi calling seems to be down this morning, whereas GoMo are fine. But it shows that WiFi calling isn’t infallible either.
