It’s highly unlikely an employer would ask for details in relation to illness unless there is an obvious H&S issue, op are you sure they are asking for specifics and not asking to be informed that you are ill and unable to attend for work?

It would seem in your best interest if you wish to avail of any benefits, like pay, your company offers if you are unable to attend due to illness, that you inform them that your are ill immediately rather than absent without leave. Each employer has their own policy in relation to certification for absences, some want a GP cert after 3 days, some more, or less.

In relation to the company Doctor, or more often an independent Dr which the company uses, your contract of employment will outline when you may be referred to their Dr, if you refuse, that may be grounds for disciplinary action. It’s important to note, they don’t want you to go there instead of your own GP, it is to confirm you are unable to work and the Dr will NOT share your medical details with your employer.

Lastly, they refuse to take a cert from a GP at their peril, you can google a case recently where a GP sued a business for tellling their staff that they would not accept certs from him, I think successful claimed they defamed him by insinuating his certs were untrustworthy.
