public sector mileage

Hi all, sorry I should probably know this but can't see anything in NSSO. I do a lot of travel within my job and I just noticed that the mileage has decreased a lot compared to last year when going to the same place. Did the mileage allowance drop? Thanks for your help,

The first 1500 km’s are at a lower rate

Start of each year the rate is lower, then higher, then two further changes depending on how much you drive in total. It is explained fully on the revenue page. Double check you are under the correct engine size while you are at it !

Thank you both- that makes sense. I only started last year and didn't realise that the first 1500km was lower. That makes sense.

Yeah same for me lower, just checked last years payslips, it was mid April before it went back to normal.

As other's have said, the rates are based on the engine size & the kilometres travelled so far in the year. Sweet spot for all is between 1,501km & 5,500km. Here's a link to them https://www.revenue.ie/en/employing-people/employee-expenses/travel-and-subsistence/civil-service-rates.aspx
