    Hi all,

Trying to find what appears be a bit of a unicorn and hoping the good people here might have some ideas.

Is it possible to buy a new petrol 7 seater MPV?

We don’t want diesel, electric or hybrid. We don’t want any jeep style or SUV style; think VW Touran “style” - that’s the type of thing we’re looking for.

Does anyone make such a thing anymore? Everything seems to be diesel or EV.

    Thanks!

Your best bet would be a Jap import Nissan Serena, Toyota Alphard / Estima.

    Something like this: https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/nissan-serena-hybrid-auto-7-seater-w-360-parking/36070317

A lot seem to have discontinued the MPV style and switched to the SUV style. Even at that a lot of them aren't true 7 seaters. I'd consider them closer to 6 and a half seats as the middle seat of the second row isn't a full seat. Peugeot 5008 is a great example of an SUV style with the full three individual seats in the second row and two in the boot.

Not a MPV and not a SUV either. But would a Dacia Jogger be suitable? More a 7 seater estate but probably the closest you will get to what you actually want.

Small but the Dacia Jogger has 7 seats and is a petrol !

Less than a litre capacity and three cylinders doesn’t sound great to be honest! Other than that, it’s a great option. Can’t understand why 7 seat estates seems to be a thing of the past as well!

Nearly all standard new petrol cars are three bangers with a turbo or hybrid system. You can blame emissions.

Had a jogger 7 seat as a rental on holidays. Was actually a decent car to get around in and the one we had was well specced with keyless entry, android auto, reversing cameras and more.

    Downsides:

It's tight enough, I'm 5ft 10 and found when my seat was in the driving position it was very cramped for the person behind me and even getting in and out of the car I found it a bit tight. If an adult is sitting in the second row they couldn't put the tables up without hitting there legs as there knees were level with the table. Also the 6th and 7th seats when you fold them down don't go flat they stay in the boot taking up space (boot was still decent enough mind). Can be taken completely out also.

Depending on your needs it might be a bit small internally but worth a look anyway.

Personally I'd go a year or two old MPV. Get one of the MPVs they've discontinued.

    Ford Tourneo connect

I wanted a petrol manual, even rarer. Or a petrol hybrid SUV. Last time I had to go diesel and auto, and problem with both.

This time I gave up and downsized. I looked at the Dacia, its not a bad option. But you'd need to really need the 7 seats at the expense of everything else.

Surely you and I can’t be the only people who want to avoid dirty and complicated diesels (DPFs are the work of the devil :-), definitely don’t want an EV, and just want a bog standard MPV with a half decent 1.6 or maybe 2.0 petrol. Surely there has to be a market for these?

We have a Peugeot 5008 - 1.2 Petrol GT Line. No complaints with it.

All manufacturers are only doing small turbo petrols these days. Even big executive cars and proper SUVs are getting 2l turbo petrols or smaller, family cars are going tiny. The Mondeo petrol has been a 1l turbo for years.

Hybrid or PHEV seems to be where you get bigger petrols these days. The MPV is dead and the salon is nearly the same, it's all about SUV or CUV these days.

While Peugeot wouldn't be my first choice. (stupid old bias)  The 5008 was nearest thing I saw to the MPV I was replacing. I liked it. Personally I like the 5008 with a PHEV, mild hybrid, but I can see why thats not for everyone. The OH didn't like the size. So we downsized to a hatchback. 5008 would be on my short list if I have to come back around to it. But is very SUV rather than MPV. Colleague has loads of Peugeots and loves them.

You could look at the mild hybrid from Toyota, highlander. It's a large 7 seater but doesn't need to be plugged in.

The VW Touran was a great car but discontinued. The VW Tiguan Allspace is the replacement.

The Peugeot 5008 comes again in a mild hybrid. No requirement to plug in.

Nissan have a mild hybrid X-Trial etc

MPV are gone, SUV or Crossover are the options available.

A mild hybrid requires no plug in and reduces the tax so best way to go. I doubt anyone is doing a straight petrol anymore

I have the Jogger 18 months now, it's rare that we would have 7 people in the car, but when we do it works grand.

I thought the 7 seater (Allspace) VW Tiguan was discontinued a while back. There is a new Tiguan due any day. Dunno if there will be an All Space. But 99% of these are diesel. Very few petrols and the rare petrol hybrid. Very expensive though. But again is a SUV, and there is the Seat equivalent. I forget the model names. All SUVs.

As Del2005 says the MPV is dead. Tiny numbers sold. 😪 Loved mine.

Seemingly it has died, never heard that

The ID Buzz is coming out in 7 seater is all I know. After that no idea what plan is. The Allspace is available now in diesel

Bro had the old model 5008, loved it, clocked up nearly 250k km's on it before he sold it on, gearbox going on it. But one hell of a car.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,076 ✭✭✭✭Flinty997

ID Buzz is a bit pricey?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,948 ✭✭✭?Cee?view

I’d buy the Buzz in a heartbeat if it could be got in Petrol

Maybe VW will see sense and introduce an ICE version as EVs have been such a disaster for them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,088 ✭✭✭Clo-Clo

Doubt it, its been designed for years as an electric

Not sure they are a disaster either, the margins on the ID are huge as we can see with the price drops. They couldn't keep them in stock the last few years. I expect once the 7 seater buzz comes out it will fly out the door once its at the right price

Cutting staff and not expanding a plant in Germany might seem like they are in trouble but then they are making lots of money:

VW brand might be suffering with the likes of Skoda becoming more popular but the overall company is not doing too bad at all.

It's more the amount of debt its carrying in the face of increasing competition. It's under pressure from many angles

Buying a 7 seater was a bit of a nightmare and ot make it worse I would have prefered electric.

I used to have a 07 Petrol Galaxy when the kids were small, it was amazing.

If you need the 7 seats all the time then you will not beat the Tourneo, be careful with Dacia and read the safety ratings and reviews first as some were rated extremely badly in crash tests, euro ncap etc.

I found that there were very few cars like the Galaxy,Sharan, Alhambra available and went with a Nissan X-Trail.

That's only because they changed the way they test. In the past it was occupant safety which the Dacia's are good at but in the new ratings are all about the gadgets the car has. Like automatic braking if the car see a pedestrian and other such electronic safety gizmos.

Have you had any issues with the wet belt on that Peugeot engine yet?

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 19,021 Mod ✭✭✭✭Moonbeam

I found the 5008 very small, loved the Kodiaq to drive and I like my X Trail but none of them with take 4 small kids. They have 4 proper seats where as the Galaxy had 7.

I would go have a look around, try out different cars etc.
