Anyone any tips on preventing footwear from being pulled apart in the washing machine? (soles separating from rest of the shoe).

    Suggestions?

Most shoes aren't suited to a washing machine.

Do people actually put their shoes in a washing machine?

Have you tried putting them in a pillow case or mesh wash bag? Also try using a slower spin.

Skechers do some machine washable pairs. Any footwear not specifically marked as such can be expected to fall apart in the machine.

The glue is being destroyed by the washing powder if the sole is separating. Most shoes are NOT meant to be washed.

Personally, I place trainers in a bucket / wash bowl filled with Vanish and non-biological washing powder. Woolite eg.

let them steep for an hour or two give them a good rub with a brush and then rinse them in the machine and spin them, let them dry naturally.

Insoles are removed for the process.

Yep - suggestion as above is don't put footwear into a washing machine.

I'd also suggest you read up on washing symbols because you may be putting other unsuitable items into a washing machine

Some people do put canvas shoes into a machine but inside a pillow case or similar, but even then many modern washing detergents will cut into the glues and make the shoes look ragged.

  • I've only had this issue once an that was due yk washing them at 40c. Wash them in a cold wash or maximum 20c
