Train journey

I have a three hour train journey tomorrow from the west of ireland to Dublin. I really don't like train journeys. Listening to people shouting into five different phone conversations. Tiny seats. Loud kids.

I'll bring my earphones. Ah but it's still hard.

What do you do to make train journeys more bearable?

I sometimes take Dublin Coach. It reminds me how good the train is.

I don't know how well enforced it is, but the Cork-Dublin service has a quiet carriage, I think it's coach G. Even if your seat isn't there, it might be worth a wander down the train to see if it's actually quiet.

On how to make the journey easier, I typically get a cold Vithit and arrive early. I've done a decent number of 5+ hour train trips so I don't really struggle once I have headphones and enough room.

window seat purchased in advance,

food and drinks procured in advance to bring on with you

noise cancelling headphones and watch a film / listen to spotify / mess around online - social media, YouTube etc…

train travel is a synch for me if you make the necessary decisions and arrangements to ensure a nice trip…

The cork Dublin train is the only train that has a silent carriage as far as I know. You're lucky!

Im getting a mayo -dublin train and that definitely does not have a silent carriage.

Exactly right. Tiny seats and a banjaxed loo on a bus will make the train seem like luxury transport.
