A hell of a lot of work has gone into this bid to bring back World rallying to Ireland, and particularly Waterford and three surrounding counties,

    Up against Tralee and Limerick.

All the southeast parties have come together and put a very compelling package together, tomorrow Tuesday is the final adjudication and announcement, here's hoping its a winner for the Southeast.

Unfortunately they did a Late Late show on it, one for everyone in the audience.

Three gigs in three separate location over three years Waterford Tralee Limerick

It will bring business to the city no doubt

Remember when we had the F1 speedboat competition here

This thing will be bigger then any of the tall ships races when it comes to town.

maybe, maybe not, good for the town though, it really only appeals to petrol heads, which isnt a bad thing at all....

Good for the city when it comes to town!

Off the cards now, according to motor sports Ireland,

    Government wouldn't approve.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,364 ✭✭✭decies

Absolute shameful decision by this government not to sign this off . Honestly I hope the good people in Waterford and the motor sports community in general send out a strong message in the local , European and General elections to ALL the Government Parties enough is enough !!

not a major issue for the majority unfortunately, only for petrol heads, and theres nothing wrong with petrol heads at all, theyre definitely free to express their anger over this, but….

  • Registered Users Posts: 347 ✭✭Rustyman101

If the rumours of lack of sign offs and interest is true the Government would seem to doing their utmost to pi** off as much and as varied a section of the electorate as possible !

Maybe Emo didn't want the petrol heads to have their day out.

We might get the tour de France back, Eamon likes bikes.......

Oh would class myself as a petrol head, I know there's 2 types of carbs the ones you eat and the ones you tune......so I am very disappointed with this news, would have been a great few days.

The money, tourism and exposure this would have brought in is off the charts.

It would have benefited loads of local people and struggling local businesses whether they have an interest in cars or not.

  • Registered Users Posts: 28,808 ✭✭✭✭Wanderer78

yes it would have benefitted some, but the reality is, its now not going to, and the majority will move on quickly, and possibly may not even be aware of it, its a pity

it’s not just full time petrol heads though is it , it’ would have being a huge lift to Waterford . When the circuit of Ireland came outside the tall ships it was the best thing that that happened to the city .

All your ridiculous talk of economics on this forum and you can't even understand the amount of money this would have brought into the county / region.

The dullards strike again. Joyless bores. The event would be beyond the usual drab mediocrity and therefore had to be killed at birth.

The dullard majority will move on quickly and may not have even been aware of it!

Is it confirmed which region will lose out. From my understanding 2026 and 2027 may go ahead.

So does that mean that 1 of Waterford, Kerry or Limerick will lose there event.

I'd imagine we will lose out anyway lol

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,010 ✭✭✭gw80

If that's the case then yes we would most likely loose out. Wild Atlantic way and all that

The last time the WRC was in Ireland, it was held in September/October I think. If that was the case again you would think that it won't be in Limerick due to the Ryder Cup golf in Adare Manor in '27 and maybe that would also apply to Kerry(Tralee base for the rally?) being quite close. Ryder Cup is normally held late September. Hopefully it will be either Limerick or Kerry for '26 and Waterford for '27.

    …yea completely useless, anyway….

…of course it would have brought a sh1t load of money into the place, seriously!

…but heres the reality, its now not gonna happen, those of us that would have greatly enjoyed this, which includes myself, yes, im actually into this kind of stuff, and have actually enjoyed such in the past….

…fcuk lads would yea ever get on with it, yes its a sh1t decision, but no, its really not gonna be a major issue come election time, it really isnt….

…now who wants to go scream at some clouds with me….

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,364 ✭✭✭decies

Regarding election it’s going to be tight for a lot of last seats for these government parties and yes this won’t be forgotten with upcoming elections amongst the motorsport community and that will hopefully cost somebody their election seat .People can decide to move on in whatever way they please .

Look whatever you might think of "petrolheads" this was a world standard event that was being brought to the country, the bid should have been treated with the respect it deserved, not for Motorsport Ireland's sake, but for our own sake on a World Stage. The fact that coming up the deadline calls were going unreturned and in the end up, "yarra lads we need another 6 months" it's the Government of equivalent of telling them to go ask their mother and see what she says. And that does leave a bad taste in the mouth whatever way you want to spin it.

This would have been bigger then any of the 2 tall ships weekends.
