Absolute shameful decision by this government not to sign this off . Honestly I hope the good people in Waterford and the motor sports community in general send out a strong message in the local , European and General elections to ALL the Government Parties enough is enough !!

If the rumours of lack of sign offs and interest is true the Government would seem to doing their utmost to pi** off as much and as varied a section of the electorate as possible !

Oh would class myself as a petrol head, I know there's 2 types of carbs the ones you eat and the ones you tune......so I am very disappointed with this news, would have been a great few days.

The money, tourism and exposure this would have brought in is off the charts.

it’s not just full time petrol heads though is it , it’ would have being a huge lift to Waterford . When the circuit of Ireland came outside the tall ships it was the best thing that that happened to the city .

Is it confirmed which region will lose out. From my understanding 2026 and 2027 may go ahead.

So does that mean that 1 of Waterford, Kerry or Limerick will lose there event.

I'd imagine we will lose out anyway lol

The last time the WRC was in Ireland, it was held in September/October I think. If that was the case again you would think that it won't be in Limerick due to the Ryder Cup golf in Adare Manor in '27 and maybe that would also apply to Kerry(Tralee base for the rally?) being quite close. Ryder Cup is normally held late September. Hopefully it will be either Limerick or Kerry for '26 and Waterford for '27.

Regarding election it’s going to be tight for a lot of last seats for these government parties and yes this won’t be forgotten with upcoming elections amongst the motorsport community and that will hopefully cost somebody their election seat .People can decide to move on in whatever way they please .

Look whatever you might think of "petrolheads" this was a world standard event that was being brought to the country, the bid should have been treated with the respect it deserved, not for Motorsport Ireland's sake, but for our own sake on a World Stage. The fact that coming up the deadline calls were going unreturned and in the end up, "yarra lads we need another 6 months" it's the Government of equivalent of telling them to go ask their mother and see what she says. And that does leave a bad taste in the mouth whatever way you want to spin it.
