    Hi All

promised the young lad a trip to france to see the USA team. am i right in thinking all countries will be participating in the preliminary rounds that are held in Lille? the chance of getting a tk for paris knockout stages would be very slim

will the actual fixtures for the Lille games not be announced until early July? would usa team likely to play on the first day?

    any advise much appreciated.

I have tickets myself and am going over for the last days of the group stages so I have done a bit of research on this. As basketball fans, we are travelling over to watch all of the final round of group games so we will be able to see all of the teams play. This approach may be cost prohibitive for you. Lowest price tickets we got were €80/game each.

The groups for Tokyo 2020 were announced on 1st February 2021 with the match schedule announced a month later. I am hoping it follows a similar timeline for this year's events.

Whenever the schedule is announced, you can be sure that everyone and their mother will be on trying to get tickets for the USA games. There are still tickets available on the official site but obviously you have no idea who is playing in each match. There will also be the official resale portal for those who are looking to exchange/sale tickets that they no longer want/need. This is due to open sometime in Spring.

With the likes of France (Gobert/Wemby), Serbia (Jokic/Bogdanovic), Canada (SGA/Brooks and more), Germany (Wagners/Schroder) and Australia (Mills/Giddey and more) all participating - there is going to be a lot of great games to watch.

Final teams will not be known until early/mid July when the last of the qualifying tournaments are played. I would be surprised if we don't see Slovenia (Luka), Spain, Montenegro/Latvia and Italy/Lithuania come out of their qualifying groups to make up the last 4 teams.

thanks a mill, great info. thats exactly what i had thought re schedules.

fair play for block booking games, sadly we shall do with one 1 or 2 and will probably also go for the last qualifier.

US announced their player pool, in addition to a couple of friendlies.

The USA will then embark on an international training window that features exhibition games against the national teams of South Sudan on July 20 and Germany on July 22 at the O2 Arena in London.

I wouldn't be surprised if you don't see Luka as they more than likely have to get pass Greece in Greece.

The final 12-man roster for the 2024 USA Olympic Basketball team hasn't been announced yet, but will likely include a star-studded lineup of NBA players.

sooo, missing out on seeing the USA team by 24hrs. opted for tickets on the friday at 5.15pm.

if anyone knows of any rep. sites that a canadian may want to swop a ticket or any genuine resale sites, would be mush appreciated. assume no more tks will be going on sale via the offical paris site.

Official resale site will be open next month. No idea how it's going to work right now.

I've got tickets to go see Canada, Serbia, USA, Germany and France. Can't wait for it to kick off 🙌

GReat stuff, will keep an eye on resale but unlikely. Will be delighted to see canada v ? On the Friday 👀😁

Resale platform opened recently. Not a whole lot of tickets for Team USA men's team. Plenty of tickets from what I can see for other games. We've picked up some really cheap tickets for an extra few games, albeit at the top of the stadium.

Giannis and Porzingis have declared that are going to play in the qualifying tournament.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,597 ✭✭✭py

The Olympic Qualifying tournaments are kicking off tomorrow. The new I mention below should have a significant impact on the outcome of Latvian hosted OQT.

Porzingis now out after undergoing surgery following his injury in the NBA finals.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,856 ✭✭✭irishguitarlad

Strangely enough, Spains biggest threat to qualify will be the Bahamas as they're after getting a good few NBA guys.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,597 ✭✭✭py

    Yup, I noticed that.

It looks like the OQT in Greece is going to be the most competitive with Greece, Slovenia and Croatia all top teams.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,597 ✭✭✭py

Croatia had way too much firepower for Slovenia yesterday. Doncic not moving well so Slovenia's final group game against New Zealand will be interesting.

Latvia demolished Georgia. Far too easy at this level. You'd wonder how good they would be with KP in the lineup.

Anyone know where to watch this game? I have a dodgy box but can't find it at all

So there will be no Doncic at the Olympics, they were hammered by Greece.

Looking forward to the OQT finals today. I'm predicting a sweep of EU wins.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,597 ✭✭✭py

There goes the prediction. Brazil with a masterclass in shooting in the first quarter and maintained that lead from there on out. Poor showing from Latvia.

Greece and Spain are heading to the Olympics. Puerto Rico vs Lithuania tonight to decide the last place.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,856 ✭✭✭irishguitarlad

Rudy Fernández is going to represent Spain in his 6th olympic games.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,856 ✭✭✭irishguitarlad

Puerto Rico shocked Lithuania last night to take the last Olympics berth. Massive shock as Lithuania were heavy favourites.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,597 ✭✭✭py

PR executed a perfect gameplan. They went zone for most of it and any time there was a ball inside to Sabonis, they swarmed him. Lithuania couldn't deal with PR's speedy guard line up. Just one of those games where its a bad matchup for Lithuania. PR a well deserved winner on the night.

Fixtures are fully set now for the Olympics so I know what teams I will be seeing. Very excited to get over now.

Kawhi out of Team USA to recover from "inflammation in his knee"

what’s the deal with not picking Jalen Brown?

MVP of the finals can’t get in even after Kawhi drops out?

I think it comes down to Kawhi and White's defensive prowess. They already have plenty of scoring. I think if it was another player, outside of Jrue, that Brown would be the replacement called up.

I'm really hoping for some good basketball in these Olympics. Countdown.

LeBron to carry the flag for Team USA during the opening ceremony, first basketball player to do so

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,597 ✭✭✭py

There were a couple of great warmup games over the weekend. Team USA almost got taken down by South Sudan. Australia got a game winner with 1 second to go against France. It looks like it is going to be a great tournament.

Team USA vs Germany at 8pm this evening. This is being shown live on NBA.com Youtube channel.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,434 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

Good competitive game between the US and Germany there. LeBron really put on a show late in the 4th to get US over the line.

Should be a good two weeks of basketball.

Watched USA/Serbia….its not looking good for Embild

He didn't look too good. I don't know if it's the FIBA ruleset, lingering injuries or the matchup against Jokic but he didn't have a great game or look too mobile. He's generally one too lean into on court gamesmanship so I can't imagine the incessant booing has an effect on him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,434 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

He was awful during the 5 warm up matches also - but it might not matter in the end.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 108 ✭✭cmred

i see the 5.15pm games in lille have been brought forward to 4.15pm - no heads up via email…

hopefully gd atmosphere over there! any good pubs to watch kellie on saturday night, do let us know

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,597 ✭✭✭py

I'm seeing this for my game for this coming Friday. I only caught it by mistake by looking at my tickets. There's no changes on FIBA or Olympics website.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,856 ✭✭✭irishguitarlad

I said it on the thread in AH but I'll say it here also that it must be strange for Embiid seeing these South Sudan guys leaving it all out there for their country and continent. I wonder what's going through his head tonight.

Incredible not giving folk heads up re time change. Hopefully people will notice..

I expect a final between USA and Canada or USA and France.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,597 ✭✭✭py

I was over there this past weekend for the Friday and Saturday games. As it was the last round of group games, there was a lot at stake for all teams with the exception of Puerto Rico who were already eliminated. The atmosphere was electric for all of the games but in particular during France vs Germany. I think we'll see Serbia, Germany, USA & Canada into the semi finals. The women's games were good too and it was great to see the stadium packed out for their games.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,856 ✭✭✭irishguitarlad

France eliminate Canada 82-73, a Canada that is essentially an NBA team. France's 3 top scorers and best players were all Euroleague guys.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,597 ✭✭✭py

FIBA Fournier showed up as well. They were really poor against Germany last Friday so was nice to see a performance from them. Gobert injured or was that a tactical decision?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,856 ✭✭✭irishguitarlad

Tactical, I think Collet stumbled on to a line up that works in the 4th quarter against Germany.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,434 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

Gobert injured his left ring finger in their last group game. The coach made some mention of it being partially a matchup decision but let's be serious here - he won't run the risk of getting knocked out with Gobert benched for "tactical" reasons

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,856 ✭✭✭irishguitarlad

Honestly I don't think he'll play much against Germany either. Himself and Wemby just don't work together and he's absolutely awful posting up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,434 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

It'll be a big move to make, a brave coaching decision.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,434 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

    what a **** game!! Immense 4th quarter

    LeBron and Steph just unreal

Fair play to Jokic and the Serbians for a heroic effort!!
