Where to get bodyfat % measured?

Hi,

Is there many places around (Ireland) that would offer a Dexa scan (which I understand to be one fairly accurate approach to measure bodyfat %) or any other similar respected types of tests?

I know you can get a calipers and measure it that way but just wondering about something more accurate?

How much did it cost? Did you need a referral letter from GP?

Could you claim anything back from private health insurance?

Was your Dexa scan just for the purposes of getting your bodyfat % or was it for other medical reasons?

100 euro shillings, no GP referral as not for medical reasons. no claim back on medical. wanted to find out on a scale of 1 to fat how fat it was....the answer was very.

You could get a weighing scales for that which gives you all the information

Yuo could, my garmin scales was out 6% vs a dexa though. That about as accurate as a statement from Sean FitzPatrick.

The withings is pretty accurate, we’ve a expensive InBody scanner in the gym and the withings measurements match it

Interesting, any idea how an InBody scanner compares in accuracy to a Dexa scan?

When I did the UCD genofit (at that point in time) my renpho scales matched the dexa, albeit when I switched to Athlete mode. Scan/ scales within half an hour of each other.

+1 for Renpho scales here, I can't be certain how accurate they are but I think mine is pretty good and you could get a starting scan to cross-check but I am only concerned about progress relative to the previous.

Tracking progress and the trend is more important that a single once off off measurement - even if highly accurate.

Dexa is not as accurate as it is made out to be. Different machines have different calibrations.

Body fat is not even a fixed measurement. As weight is constantly varying, so too is body fat.

In general calipers are not accurate as there is too much human involvement. Placement, pressure etc.
