I wonder will we hear anymore about it or will it just be swept under the carpet like the incident last summer when some lad who was collecting golf balls was shot? They found the culprit that time but the public are none the wiser as to whether he's still allowed roam around shooting at night. Strange case.

I've seen a good few soccer players go down like they were shot by a sniper but this is the first time I've heard of one of them actually being shot.

This thread should be in the Hunting forum. Some of them lads are dangerous feckers going around woods taking pot shots, no warning until a gun goes off near you. A lady in this parish was hit by a stray bullet when she was out gardening a few years ago. So happens more often than you'd think perhaps?

Night shooting with night vision or lamps isn't illegal in Ireland and in the most recent death from a legally held firearm the shot was fired at close quarters in broad daylight.

Why would having permissions/authorisations make any difference?

Whoever it was and whatever permissions/authorisations they had they still shot an innocent person playing soccer and are very lucky the chap was only hit in the arm.

i think it would make a big difference if he had no permission to be in that area,and if he was using night vision without authorisation.or permission from the landowner to use a lamp on his land.yes indeed the chap was lucky he was not killed,,,

Surely one of your bullets striking a lad on a football pitch has no equivalent here, as it can only have happened if the shooter was acting very irresponsibly?

A poor driver can lose control at any time, but only a shooter acting illegally can be in a position to shoot somebody.

Firing a rifle at a target where there clearly wasn’t a suitable backstop is far worse than hunting on land without permission or using Night vision without a license for it FFS.

Ah I can’t figure out what you’re trying to say and it looks like I’m not alone, he took a shot at something where he obviously didn’t have a backstop, how in the name of god does it matter at this stage whether he had permission to shoot wherever he was or not. If you want to use the analogy of a driver, it’d be like someone drink driving and causing an accident and now you’re debating whether the car was taxed or not.

The match was being played under floodlights, you'd imagine it would be hard not to notice floodlights in your line of fire and not wonder what they were.

The victim seems to be doing well all things considered and the Gardai seem confident they are on the right track.

Some of the popular rounds used for deer are used for competition shooting up to 1000m but would travel 2000m or more, responsible hunters will only shoot if there's a backstop for the bullet to enter behind the target, such as a ditch or rising ground.

It appears to be something that happens regularly enough at the soccerball from the clips I've seen on yourtube of the lads in the big stadiums running in on goal with nobody near them and getting shot and falling over and rolling around in agony.
