Full trailer's up. Preferred the teaser myself.

Will give them kudos for going for self-immolation rather than a rope in that trailer. Surprised they didn't go for a straight reboot. Might be decent, looks better than the recent Exorcist offering.

    Saw today it was decent.

Nell Tiger Free is excellent in the lead, kind of knew where the story was going from the off. Not sure what Ralph Ineson was at with the accent to be honest. A few decent scares (but not enough) lots of call backs as you would expect. It looked really stylish and sound design terrific. 7/10

Not a huge fan of the ending, a bit cheesy and clearly they did it to make room for more sequels Damien versus his sister and mum hmm... ok, which are not needed.

I really enjoyed it, Ineson's accent was a mess but the visual effects were stunning. There was a big body horror element to it and it did its homages in not the most jarring of ways…

Definitely, would be interested to see where they go with it.

Very good little flick with some great acting and atmosphere. Links in with the original Omen very nicely though I can see how it may become it's own spin-off too.

Enjoyable film. Did well with the Seventies backdrop. The cast was very committed, particularly the lead. The motivation being the antagonist group was certainly a bit different.

Would agree that the ending felt a bit tacked on or as a result of a hast re-shoot. Would certainly be interested where they could go with sequel. Also the links with the original were decently carried out.

Also there was a rope as well as self-immolation.

Absolutely rubbish. Whoever wrote it, needs a lesson as it made zero sense. Accents all over the place however some shots looked nice. 1/5

Went to see this yesterday. Absolutely appalling stuff. Astonished to see some of the positive reviews it's getting in Empire magazine and The Guardian, especially compared to the recent Exorcist:Believer which was slammed by almost everyone but which makes this tedious exercise look like a masterpiece by comparison. It's set in the '70's and looks like it was made in that era too, with lacklustre production and pacing. Tedious, long drawn out story with a few token jump scares and gory set pieces thrown in to keep you awake. Avoid at all costs.

One of the better horror films so far this year. Really enjoyed it.

The poster above moaning that it looks like it was "made in the 70's with 70's pacing and production" as though that's a bad thing. That's why I loved it so much. It's a proper throwback and its made with love for the original.

Only minor quibble is that they felt the need to leave loose threads as sequel bait.

As a lover of the original I'm half afraid to see this. Halloween 2018 was bad enough and I didn't bother going to see the new Exorcist. Reviews of this film seem to veer wildly from very positive to horrible. Is it worth seeing?

    The First Omen – 7/10

A surprisingly effective horror prequel that doesn’t feel like a cheap cash in, made with love and respect for the original whilst evoking a slick 70’s vibe through a character driven plot and pacing.

The cast doesn’t feature anyone quite as heavyweight as Gregory Peck, but we do get a brief appearance from Charles Dance, a sprinkling of Bill Nighy and Atticus Finchy from the office. But it’s the main star Nell Tiger Free (not an anagram) who carries proceedings and is allowed to take her performance to some dark places. I’ve still not seen Andrzej Zulawski’s Possession (1981) but I’m aware of that scene and I know a homage when I see one.

It sadly gets slightly bogged down in ‘one upping’ the original and leaving studio mandated loose threads behind as sequel bait, but those gripes aside it is a solid horror that ticks all the boxes puts you through the wringer.

    Now on Disney+

Watched this at the weekend, wasn't too bad. I liked the lead and the atmosphere and the creepy atonal score.

I want to comment on how similar it felt story-wise to another classic horror, but not sure how to do spoilers here anymore....

A bit mad seeing this get the big banner treatment on Disney+

Thought it was surprisingly good and complements the original film pretty well.

Decent atmosphere and pace, doesn't rely on gimmicks or cheap jump scares.

Ending maybe not quite as strong as the overall film but it was fine and leaves the door open for something to either run alongside the original movie or reboot it again.

I'd say it's a 3.5/5. Very solid, not brilliant, but far better than it might have been.

I watched Immaculate recently as well and this is much better, nails the atmosphere far more convincingly.

They have the original three films and the 2006 remake on their streaming service. Makes sense for them to try to highlight them hosting the series.

I watched this on Disney+ a couple of nights ago.

I really enjoyed it. Felt just like a 1970s horror movie.

I think it could have done with some brief explanation of how the they engineered the pregnancies (inspired by Nazi research and experiments perhaps) and where the jackel came from (did they create it?) and how did they get the Mark of the Beast to appear on each offspring.

I’m hoping it gets a sequel as I’d like to see where the story could go. I’m guessing Margaret will raise her daughter to be the one who stops Damien. And there is no need to remake the original as sequels to The First Omen could simply happen at the same time.

I could have sworn that Stephen Rea was the doctor during the birth scene that occurs just before Sister Angelica’s suicide. And I thought at first that they’d made a huge mistake as Thorn digs up the grave of Damien’s biological mother find his real son’s remain and those of a jackel however, that could simply be the jackel that the cabal burned at the end of the film. Thorn was told that was the mother’s grave but it doesn’t mean the mother was in there.
