I have a detached garage and I would like to convert it into an apartment. With kitchen/dining room, and bathroom and bedroom. Just wondering roughly what would it cost .and also do I have to apply for planning. I would be very greatful if someone out there could give me any information regards John

Sounds like you need planning considering the sleeping (bedroom) proposal.
Planning will be tough, if not impossible to obtain unless you meet the criteria for a one off, infill dwelling.

Planning definitely required.
Costs could vary a lot depending on the size of the space, the current provisions, and the level of finish you want to achieve.
If there are power and water already that will reduce costs. But there will be costs to split there into separate metered services, etc.
