Seeking guidance on the proper completion of the reference form for the Clerical Officer position.

Recently, several nearby towns have opened applications for the Clerical Officer position. The application process requires filling out a reference form. However, I only have one work experience, and it has been many years since I graduated from college. My previous professors are either retired or no longer reachable. How should I handle this situation?

I only have one current employment verification. The requirement is for two distinct experiences, and the referees should not have a personal connection with me. Based on the content of previous posts, it seems the only option is to provide proof from my previous university. However, I'm currently unable to locate anyone from that time.

You put down the work reference you have and leave it at that.

Also, if it is not a written reference, then check with the person who's name you are about to give, that they are willing to act as your reference. There is nothing as bad as having a potential employer call a referee and the reference is refused.

As Jim says put down what you have.

People move around so much impossible to expect people will know where they've gone. Or even if it's still relevant.

OP, if you do not have recent work references, use referees fromm voluntary work you have done, community organisations you've been involved in, etc. If you haven't done any, then start.

Also, if you've been on a community work scheme this should be treated just like a paying job.

For government jobs, references are box ticking exercises - on both sides.

But much like Facebook, there's a lot of people NOT on LinkedIn. IMO it's a site with more noise and marketing than substance. Lot of imagination being used on peoples profiles. But hey if it works for people.

Indeed, it's a rather meaningless question. To be honest, even those common STAR questions that often come up in interviews can seem a bit absurd. How can you have so many stories amid a busy job?
