Enforcement of NI motoring fine in Ireland

I received a letter for a £45 fine for ’contravening bus lane regulations’ in Belfast/NI with my Irish registered van. Are these fines followed up and reinforced here in Ireland after Brexit? Has anyone experience with not paying such a fine?

Do you travel much in NI. Might save you being stopped in the future with an ANPR car.

They can get them.

Also, if a car has a warning on it, like an unpaid fine, that shows up in anpr systems. If anyone is driving regularly in NI, they would be better off to pay, or else they could find themselves standing on the side of the road

Was the fine sent to a 6 counties address or one in the south? If you were recorded going into a bus lane in the 6 counties/Belfast and the fine was sent to an address in the south I'd appeal it. If refused personally I'd pay it. Don' t pay it they'll still nab you in the 6 counties if stopped again. They can't endorse your license, you might get a another fine possibly a recorded caution or they could seize your vehicle until you pay.

Don't have to be specific on here where it was but an appeal you could say you had to go into the bus lane to avoid a busted drain cover, thanks to the glider the roads are a mess and that is true. I got a caution myself on my motorbike, smile take it and 'no worries I won't do it again' cheek them or argue you'll make things worse, theres good reason why nationalists still don't trust them

Surely if you dont pay it and are summonsed to court it would have to be in NI. If you dont show up are they really going to get an extradition over a fine? Best they could do is just pull your van in if you are up the north again. Do you go up the north much. Would pay it if you do

I seriously believe this is silly. For the sake of 50 euro or so, you are taking a chance on having your van or car seized if spotted in NI again. ANPR is great for marking a vehicle, just watch the police tv shows. If your van is spotted in the UK and it pings, you wont be driving away, it will be seized. They dont mess around. If they mark your name, then you could get pulled if stopped again in any car and the name pings.

It's 50 euro for fecks sake.

If you were to be stopped then they might discover a few new problems for you...

If you did not do it, contest it, other wise pay up and learn the lesson.

Thats what I said, smile take the caution it won't happen again and personally I'd pay the fine if it were me. I still wouldn't trust the 6 counties 'police'

Most Nordies do not bother paying the M50 toll. They all get away with it.....

This lad got a 200 euro fine and a his license suspended, he did not show.

Ireland and the UK have a mutual agreement where drivers disqualified in one country are recognised in the other. 

I know this is the other way NI breaking the rules here. If he paid the parking fine that would have been the end of it.

Not paying the fine does not mean paying the fine when caught is the end of it. You are generally worse off.
