Anyone getting on it this year?

I'm going to give it a shot but may get derailed, like last year, by a wedding in the middle of it.

I’ve an open plan for the Xmas period so I’ll give it a bash between outdoor & Zwift depending on weather. For this who say Zwift doesn’t count, you try do 2hrs on it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,971 ✭✭✭fat bloke

It's in the plan. Usually manage to drudge it out most years

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 632 ✭✭✭ARX

    You're really selling it there😄

Thinking of doing it, but I need to practice hills more than I need to put in distance.

As someone to lazy to google, what are the rules, is it between the 25th and the new year.

Will give it a go, have around 15 hours in the training plan for those days and will probably do majority of those indoor so some high avg speeds :P

Exactly 😄 Zwift is particularly awful for it, the Kickr is a bit more reasonable. Even so it's only going to be worth a few km per hour anyway so not overly relevant....

I have no baby, and I'm still going to sit on my arse and eat

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,021 ✭✭✭rflynnr

I was thinking of this but given that Christmas Day itself is out that means an average of 70km per day. And some of the weather looks awful. As the man once said, I may be getting too old for this sh*t.

rflynnr is correct regarding the weather forecast,at the moment it's looking like a wet Xmas week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,880 ✭✭✭✭dahat

Zwift Xmas eve & never cycle Xmas day so that will be the two worst days weather wise out of the way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,757 ✭✭✭beggars_bush

Xmas day falls on a rest day, so might give it a go after that. Rumours the club is doing a midweek spin which will help

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 898 ✭✭✭sy_flembeck

My baby is 24. Can I still use this as an excuse to sit on my arse and eat?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,971 ✭✭✭fat bloke

100 odd damp km done today. Damn the rules, I'm counting it towards my 5!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,397 ✭✭✭easygoing39

Its bad enough with soft ba3tads doing the 500 km on indoor trainers without lad's like yourself starting a day earlier!!! I done 600 km's in 3 days last June,do you think I could use those kilometers towards the Christmas 2023 Festive500??LOL

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,880 ✭✭✭✭dahat

Xmas eve traffic plus a rather damp & windy forecast means first part will be on Zwift as I’m soft ya know.

    2hrs endurance or a 2hr race???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 194 ✭✭mitchelsontour

All indoor for me,between family stuff and work light will be against me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,971 ✭✭✭fat bloke

Someone better tell Easygoing39 someone else appears to be posting under his username!

Soft 2hrs on Zwift, solid endurance HR with a shade under 75km banked.

No spin tomorrow for fear of divorce 😂😂

Was planning 120km outdoors today but switched and rode the rollers instead for around 100km

Reckon I might weasel a couple of hours again tomorrow depending on how things pan out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,757 ✭✭✭beggars_bush

135km to start the week off. Not really too bothered if I make the 500 tbh

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,313 ✭✭✭07Lapierre

A lousy start! Doubt I’ll get it done as I had intended doing 150+ today.

Today is a perfect day to get some km in, so of course I'm sitting on my arse all day eating

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,661 ✭✭✭✭retalivity

Really cant see how people can complete this without a divorce by Jan 1st! Unless its on zwift 'babysitting' the kids...

85k done on 2 days, cant spare much more time, ill try get 200 done, and that'll be it for me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,971 ✭✭✭fat bloke

Got out for 90 odd Christmas eve, nothing yesterday, and got a lovely 100 today even took in Laragh and the 2 gaps. Beautiful day out on the quiet Wicklow mountain roads. Club spin tomorrow should be another handy 100 and sure that'll be the back broken on it pretty much.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,313 ✭✭✭07Lapierre

    Back on track!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 988 ✭✭✭nicksnikita

Got 100km in today so currently on 250.

    Cracking conditions today

Ticking along on a decent day for cycling today, 130kms ✅.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 909 ✭✭✭gn3dr

Had loose thoughts about doing this - 47km on the turbo on the 24th and 70km yesterday (dull and verrrry cold down here in Kerry)

This fecking storm Geritt now though means indoor only for the next 2 days.

That fellow above that did it in one day - nuts. What about one of the guys out to do a lap with him - wearing shorts!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,757 ✭✭✭beggars_bush

We were wearing shorts on Saturday! Was 12°C

Another 75km on turbo this morning. Once I get something done I'll be happy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 988 ✭✭✭nicksnikita

But sure he did it before the challenge even started

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,971 ✭✭✭fat bloke

96 today. Felt like 196. Lashings of rain and wind. At least it wasn't cold. My Garmin is screaming at me the last 3 days to recover. There'll be smoke coming out of it if I go again tomorrow! 😁

Gonna pay for all these 90's though.. Means a 120 day to make it up

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,880 ✭✭✭✭dahat

I feel your pain Fat Bloke , knocked out 115km myself & it felt way harder than I expected. Wind, rain & messy roads no help but a 23km tailwind home to blue skies helped at the finish.

321/500 done, hard work is done now.

Also I’ve gone over 16k km for YTD now, chuffed.

    408/500 done.

Group ride & Crit race on Zwift today as was just fed up of the wind and washing the bike.

Ill finish it off tomorrow in style as I’m planning a 5hr route later on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 909 ✭✭✭gn3dr

Something wrong with your maths I think 😁

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,971 ✭✭✭fat bloke

Another century today. Manky starting out but just got nicer and nicer and turned 8 into a grand day in the end. Dried out enough for a coffee stop and then a tailwind home.

Leaves me with 3 days to do the last 103km.should that manage that tomorrow, then one last wash and I can hang the bike up til 2024

Won’t get out on NY’s Eve, so 150k between tomorrow and Saturday. Going to be close!

A freezing, soaking ride around Kildare and Laois this morning has me at 340km.

Travelling tomorrow but might squeeze in an hour in the evening.

Then hopefully the weather plays ball on NYE for a finish.

OMG. That concludes my cycling for 2023.

Today was supposed to be the "nice" day. 1% chance of rain accuweather app promised me. Instead we got soaked through in the first hour and a half and were frozen with the cold the rest of it. 5 started out and after 40k there was only 2 of us left! Toughed it out anyway and in the end twas grand. Sandwich, coffee and a bit flog drying in the Hollywood cafe and then a tailwind home and a last dying wasp-sting in the tail shower on the way. But by then we knew we had it beat.

Including my doesn't-count 23rd spin, that's 600k over 7 days. Christ I'd nearly be happy with that if I was in Mallorca for a week.

Festive 500 ticked off after today’s spin. O only needed less than 100km but had planned for a decent spin so ended up with 5hrs on tje road today. A cold day but escaped any bad weather but two flats in the last hour soured things a bit.

I’d love to tell ye I’ll rest up now but that won’t happen until New Year’s Day.

90k today to make it 502km - Festive 500 in the bag. All done on Zwift so not same as road miles I suppose.

I did ride 22nd and 23rd Dec though and 135km covered. Plus 9.5km Trial walk with the dogs 9 outa the 10 days. So few beers earned regardless

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,313 ✭✭✭07Lapierre

Over for another year.. well done everyone!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 988 ✭✭✭nicksnikita

135km on the menu for me tomorrow if I’m going to get across the line this year

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,971 ✭✭✭fat bloke

    G'wan dude. Go for it.

Or do like my mate suggested and stop at 499.99km, for the laugh 😁
