Query on My Social Welfare Application and what i have saved

this Tuesday is my last shift in my employer and i will be applying for JSA/JSB , a friend of mine told me that if you have over 25k saved you are disqualified from getting a Social Welfare Payment ? is this correct ? am i also banned from the training grant of 1000euro (im a forklift Driver and received the Grant 3 years ago) ,i also rent an apartment on the Dublin City Council Housing List where my rent is calculated to my earnings , so if im not even receiving a Social Welfare payment how will they calculate my rent

If you qualify for jobseekers benefit (stamps) you qualify for 9 months of payments without any means test .Jobseekes allowance(dole) is means tested and any savings greater then 20k will mean a reduced payment.

To qualify for stamps you need 104 weeks of contributions and 39 in the qualifying year which is 2021 up to 31/12 and next year if you apply the qualifying year is 2022

Your friend is wrong.

Welfare payments can be categorised as follows:

(1) universal, e.g. Child Benefit

(2) social insurance benefits, these are not means-tested, e.g. State Pension contributory, JSB, IB, maternity/paternity benefit, etc.

(3) social assitance, these are means-tested: JSA "dole", DA, OPFP, Carer's allowance, etc.
