    Hi,

Anyone have exprience or knowledge about transitioning from being an RGN to Advanced paramedic? I am currently an RGN in a Dublin hospital and thinking to take a career turn into NAS as advanced paramedic. I'm just curious if it's at all possible and what are the steps I need to take. Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

Nope. You have to start from scratch like everybody else. 3 year degree with intensive training.

Afraid there is no direct route. I'm a paramedic myself. Had two nurses in my Paramedic class. Our roles are similar but also very different. Enrol in the 3-year programme. Get qualified and then after one year qualified you can apply to sit the AP assessment (MCQ followed by interview). Though the AP programme is a bit up in the air at the moment. PHECC is doing a review into increasing Paramedic skillsets. Specialised divisions are being created for Community & Critical Care paramedics. Have a look at PHECC's website, under minutes, if you're interested.

Thanks for the input! I got a response from PHECC and they told me the same, I have to start from student paramedic. I don't mind atarting from scratch, it's just the bills that concern me when I come off from my current job to being a trainee. The next thing for me is to keep an eye on when's the next recruitment.

You'll be netting at least 860-1200 per fornight when you're a student paramedic.
