Opel insignia - Service vehicle soon error

So i had my open insignia serviced a few months back and just in the last few days whenever i turn the car on it gives me an error saying “Service Vehicle Soon”. I called my regular service guy and they can only look at it next year in January. I’m worried this might be a bigger issue so don’t want to wait till January

Any suggestions on who can check it out for me for cheap? Would halfords check these sort of things? Or should i just go to First Stop? (I’m in Dublin btw)

It needs to be reset, your service guy didn't reset it when servicing the car, it's just a countdown on KMs/miles or time since car was last reset, no technical issue with car.

Should be a few videos on YouTube telling how to manually reset it yourself.

If you're happy the car does not need a service, it's possible previous service forgot to reset the warning ?

Nothing to worry about, the car's service notification schedule just wasn't reset when it was serviced.

Do halfords check this sort of thing? Id rather get this checked out. The car definitely doesn’t need servicing but a quick google search says this is not about service but something else

Have you tried resetting it yourself?

I think this is the correct sequence (someone will kick me if not

):

-With ignition off press and keep hold of trip reset button

-Then press and hold down the brake pedal while keeping the trip button pressed

-With these both still pressed turn the ignition on - don't start engine

-Keep the two pressed until the Display on the trip screen reads 'INSP 20000'

-Release the trip button and take your foot off the brake and switch ignition off.

-Service interval has now been reset.

Try this OP. Reading your link does your message stay on or only show when you start the car?

How many months.

And what's your mileage.

Anyone telling you to reset it yourself should be asking you those questions first... People doing big mileage can rake up a service notification in 6 months.

Based on what ? 'It was serviced a few months ago'. No one quantified that.....

Don't reset service lights willy nilly frankly. Check the service odometer Mileage in the manual against current mileage .

I offered a suggestion to the OP based on what they were stating in the thread, if the error returns after resetting then clearly the issue is something else, if it doesn't, then it's just the service schedule that required resetting and happy days.

What is wrong with that? There is no need to jump down people's throats.

 I had the car recently serviced and next service is due at 175K whereas i'm at 157K so definately not a service issue!

I'll try resetting it and report back if it works. Also, just noticed today that in the evening when the car was parked outside in the cold for the whole day and i started the car, i got the same error (service vehicle soon) but then also got an error for Power Steering after i started driving the car but it went away after 10 seconds. Not sure if they are linked but drove the car for 30 minutes after that and didnt have the power steering error come up again.

Also, the service vehicle soon error only comes up when i start the car (not while driving)

I had a service vehicle soon message on my insignia last year, long before it was due. Booked it in anyway and the glow plugs needed replacing.

I’d book that January date, OP. It isn’t that far away.

I'll leave it at this cos it's of no benefit to the OP. You responded to the OP initially referencing/dissing my suggestion about resetting the service interval, so i responded referencing the OP stating that it definitely didn't need servicing, that's all i posted.

You then responded asking me 'Based on what?' which is why i suggested asking the OP. The OP has now answered the question hopefully to your satisfaction but given they stated it didn't need a service i felt it was a question that didn't need to be asked in the first place.

It's normally a glow plug issue and nothing to do with when you service the car. You'll need to get the codes read but if it's just started happening when weather gets colder then it's more than likely glow plugs.

"Service vehicle soon " on an Opel is an engine fault and not the service reminder message.

The service reminders on Opels say "change oil soon"

OP you have an engine fault and it needs to be plugged into a diagnostic.

Strange as if a glow plug was faulty starting might have sounded different like a miss on startup?

Interesting as it might be a trouble code scanned.

So bought it in to first stop to get it checked out. I told them it's most likely the glow plug but they ignored me and said they'll have a look. Anyway, they checked the car and said its the faulty oil filter & Air flow sensor as that's what came up on the diagnostic so they changed it. I went to pick the car after work and the error was still coming up. They told me to bring it back the next day and they'll check it out. Anyway, bought it in to them again and turns out it was the glow plug like i had said to them in the start but the guy said that on the diagnostic it was showing oil filter & air flow sensor before and only showed the glowplug now.

Not sure what's going on but atleast the car is fixed now.

So what did they actually do? Wasn't aware they replaced glow plugs tbh, thought it was just basic servicing.

No such thing as an "oil filter and air flow sensor"

Theres an air flow sensor alright but that usually puts the insignia into limp mode and it wont rev over 3000 rpm. You wont get a code for an "oil filter"

I hate spoofers - I d say they reset the light when you dropped it in morning hoping for the best and when you went to collect it later that day the light came back on and it was only then they diagnosed it.

I'm surprised you brought it to First Stop in the first place. I'd trust them to fit a new set of tyres correctly but that's about it.

Might it be worth buying a plug in diagnostic tool and connects to your phone via Bluetooth ?
