Lisbon for a quick weekend? Or where else.....

I will be flying out of Faro on a Friday afternoon/evening next May, but have the weekend free before I have to be back in Ireland.

I'm trying to figure out where I can go for a quick 2 nights that's cheap, but interesting/nice.

I fancied Porto, but there's no direct flights home from there.

Then thought Lisbon - it's cheap to get to, and home from, and I think I've heard good reports about it. How would it be for a female alone (eating out in the evening is always a bit of a sticking point!)? Anyone have any accommodation suggestions?

Or any other suggestions for a place that would be a nice 2-day stopover? It doesn't have to be a city, but I don't want to waste hours travelling to and from an airport either......

First off I’m male, so cannot be certain about how safe a lady can be alone in Lisbon.

I love Lisbon, one of my favourites in Europe. I cannot advise on a hotel, we stayed in Airbnb. But in reality everything there is cheap. There’s lots to do. Indeed imho a weekend isn’t enough. 3 airlines fly Dublin to Lisbon ( EI, FR & TAP ),so plenty of choice.

Has Ryanair stopped flying to Porto? I didn’t know that. Porto is also a great city to visit.

When You make Your choice, feel free to pm me for suggestions. May is a good time to go - before the heat intensifies.

I’d have Seville over Lisbon any day. Simple bus journey from Faro and usually a Ryanair flight assuming you want to get back to Dublin. More interesting city, food 1m times better.

Lisbon I enjoyed, haven’t been there since 2014 so this advice / experience is somewhat dated.

I found it difficult to spend money. Eating out was exceptionally cheap, alcohol was for nothing, public transport the same.

Lisbon 100% - I have zero negative to say about the place (been there 3 times, around 3-4 nights each time).
