Fees for WRC solicitor - 2023?

Hi all - does anybody have experience of hiring a solicitor to complete the WRC complaint form and attend the hearing? About how much does this cost? How do you find a really good WRC solicitor? Other side has €€€€€ state funding and unlimited resources. Very stressed. TIA.

Got a quote recently 1.5k for filing, 1.5k for submission and 2k per day representation in wrc

What is the nature of it? Unfair dismissal, or bullying, payment of wages etc? If it is minor you could do it yourself, if it is a big deal like unfair dismissal would recommend going legal

Somebody with far fewer qualifications and experience was promoted over me, again. I have it in writing that they breached HR promotion policy as well, to my disadvantage.

No interview for high end position. Well known that it's all decided before the applications are assessed. Cronyism etc.

Be careful OP. Are you sure that the person who got the job was simply just a better candidate who filled in a good application and did a good interview? You would need to prove otherwise and this might be very difficult.

Yes, deputy head vs principal - no interviews. Person who got the job had never even been a deputy head, and has far fewer qualifications. Not the first time this has happened, either.

What is the HR promotion policy if I may ask. While I understand your frustration, just because someone has more experience and qualifications doesn't mean they're better at a given job.

Applicants are scored based on qualifications, experience, all the usual. But my main point is that according to HR policy there were supposed to be interviews, never happened.

The answer is always it depends. If it was a very clear case of an employer breaking the law, then a solicitor might have to put say up to two days, but from what you have said so far it does not appear that you have an obvious case to pursue. So a solicitor might have to put a week or more into trying to put a case together to support your claims and then of course go and defend it. It could cost anything from say 1.5k to 6k or a lot more.

What you could do is visit a solicitor, outline your complaint to them and ask them for an estimate of their fees to work with you on this.

Do you mean you are not a member, or it is a school with no union involvement?

If the former, can you talk to the rep and see if the union would provide a solicitor as it is an issue affects their members, even if you are not one.

I know in the past they used to do this.

I don't see what case you plan on taking or on what grounds - are you going to claim age discrimination? Otherwise, the WRC are only there to enforce employment legislation and promoting someone who has less qualifications is not against the law.

I'd suggest goong some research yourself and then decide if it's going to a solicitor. Another option is going to the citizens information or FLAC and seeing if either of them could give you a steer.

Hi dav010, you need to take ibunnaes advice on this one. they offered sound advice and for their troubles were branded sexists. whilst you agree the OP didn't provide sufficient information, you take no slight in their accusations. the OP needs to be held accountable for their silly allegations, and whilst they are getting their comeuppance in the workplace, they have started a whole new grievance in this thread.
