Digital Mixer Shower Recommendations

Anyone have a digital mixer shower they like and could recommend?

I like simple, sensible, tactile controls. So much so that I'm currently favouring a normal thermostatic shower. But, I'm planning a bathroom renovation and I just want to know a bit more about peoples' experience with digital. I suppose I'm a little bit drawn to the new shiny thing.

That's not the type of digital mixer I'm thinking of. It looks like that's made to retrofit to the two outlet, bar arrangement. The ones I'm thinking about have their own mixing unit. So you end up having an arrangement in your enclosure like this, where there's a supply for the overhead, a supply for the wand and wiring to the controls.

From what I gather, they'll give you 18L a minute (which can be reduced if needed). Downside is it'll cost you anywhere from €900 upwards depending on the configuration you go for. Also, Aqualisa replacement parts tend to be brand-specific, generic parts won't do.

We stopped installing digital showers a few years ago. It didn't matter who made them, almost all had to be repaired under warranty. Out of warranty repairs can reach €700 or €800.

Bar mixer with dual head and dedicated pump in the hot press or attic is a far better job. Less troublesome & far cheaper to repair. Also you can get better flow rate using dedicated pump

In the case of the pump:

• Does it make sense to use a twin pump to boost both hot and cold?
• Is it sensible to boost only the shower, or could the pump be used for sinks, bath etc?

I'd use something like this. This will get you 20 odd litres per minute. I have one just for my shower but nothing wrong with using for the basin, bath etc.

If connected to the toilet you might want to install a timer so pump doesn't kick in at 3am. Having said that mine is so quiet it wouldn't wake anyone up

In one bathroom I'm installing a bar mixer shower and in another bathroom I'm installing an electric shower.

Since I would have the pump, can a "mains fed" electric shower be supplied off that pump? It seems like a waste to get a pumped shower, when the standalone pump is there to do the work for it.

Connecting a mains fed shower to a pump is act a better job compared to connecting to the mains water supply. For the most part mains water pressure isn't reliable enough for mains fed shower in Ireland.
