Slatted Sheep Shed

Current plan for the new year is to expand on sheep housing, going to put up a simple lean to type shed, 20ft wide x 32ft long, so 2 spans essentially. Plan for the shed is for finishing lambs during the winter and then lambing in the spring. Would you justify a slatted shed of this size? Only thinking of going slatted route due to the shortage of straw this year but is a slatted shed of this size considered too small and unnecessary spending?

Sheep housing is just for your own comfort, it's unlikely that a sheep enterprise would justify its cost.

I considered putting in one when I built mine a few years ago. However u only need it for a couple of weeks. It does t allow u to utilise the shed for other things during year.

Looking for advice on slatted sheep housing. How deep are tanks usually? What thickness walls required and what span are the plastic slats? Anything you would do or wouldn’t do if building again? Thanks for any insights.

Have 14 bays of slats here. Mixture of plastic and timber. Plastic slats are tanks are 15ft wide iirc and the timber one are 17ft. Most tanks have a wall running up the middle to support the slat runners. Tanks are 4ft deep with a sump for agitation. Walls are 11 inches thick on the poured tanks. One tank has pillers and concrete lentils carrying the runners.

What Weight would these slats hold, Im a big lad… also how easy are the broken?

What is the rough cost per bay for Plastics slats the way you have them built

Also why did you only go 4ft deep not the full dept of say a cattle shed!

Thanks for this. Do you think it is essential to have a central spine wall to support the slats?
What size are your pens? I presume you have 6 or 12 inches of Concrete toe space at the front and back of pens?

pg141 They say the plastic slats will hold animals upto 200kg. The slats are about €60/sq metre from my enquiries.
