Volvo EX30 vs Tesla Model 3 Highland

So I was really interested in the upcoming EX30 but I think the new Tesla model 3 is a better deal:

Basic EX30 = €39,596 (range 344km) after grants.

Standard range model 3 = €41,832 (range 554km with the 18in wheels) after grants.

The Tesla has over 200km more range for €2236 more and has all the extras already as standard.

If you want to extend the range of the EX30 to 476km it's about approx. €4500 more (not sure based on the VRT rebate aspect). That brings it well above the Tesla for 78km less range and not all the extras.

I really like the EX30 but cannot justify it over the model 3 :(

(also the basic EX30 has 11kv AC charging but as noted below so does the model 3 so no difference there)

Model 3 only has 11kw AC too.

I really like the EX30 after having an i3 which is similar. Size wise it’s in a smaller class than the M3. Not really a competitor in that segment in my opinion.

M3 is a better value purchase alright, the Volvo may be built better but the M3 is not as bad as the internet makes it out to be in my experience.

If I had to pick, I’d pick an M3 myself.

Crap, I thought the revised Model 3 was 22kv, now corrected.

I really like the styling of the EX30 and how Android Auto is built-in but I think the Tesla blows it out of the water on range and tech. The new Highland version appears to have fixed all the issues that the old model 3 had.

Don't forget residual values, the Volvo will likely hold its value better than the M3 - not sure too many will distinguish the new version from the old one in a few years and we are more likely to see aggressive price cuts and volume into rentals than for Volvo

If worried about resales, don’t buy brand new but Proportionally it will even out I’d imagine based on purchased price differences. Both are similar priced I believe, 41,832 for the M3 V 41,495 for the EX30.

The EX30 is a smaller car, nobody out looking at an M3 or BYD Seal sized car will suddenly say ohh wait, the EX30 is what I’ll buy.

But someone looking at an EX30 would say wait, I can get a model 3 with better range for cheaper (assuming you're looking at the extended range EX30).
