Used car recommendation for m50 commute 20k budget

Hi,

My morning and evening 35km commute usually lasts over an hour thanks to M50 traffic. Outside of this, there is the occasional trip down the country but I would suggest that annual mileage is sub 15km per year.

On the requirements list would be:

1) Android auto

2) Fuel efficiency

3) Automatic transmission (I realise points 2 and 3 are polar opposites of each other!)

At the minute I'm looking at Skoda Octavia & Civic type cars but really I'm after something that will be comfortable for the commutes and that wont be costing me a fortune in tax and upkeep.

Budget is 20k.

Points 2 and 3 are not the opposite of each other at all.

Octavia not a bad shout at all, maybe you'll find more Skoda superbs in automatic though.

Buy an automatic Golf with radar cruise control. The car starts and stops for you in traffic and you never have to touch the pedals.

Skoda Octavia is the same but they are mostly diesel which won’t suit your commute.

There are hundreds of Japanese import petrol automatic Golfs to choose from.

Plenty of electric options at €20k if you can charge at home, or work.

Because your stuck in traffic for over an hour each way. Diesel cars need to be regularly driven at motorway speeds or the DPF will give trouble. Anyway, petrol cars are much nicer to drive.

If you have a way to charge, another alternative would be a plug in hybrid, reduced tolls with it, bmw, vw, kia a few others, some will complete the 35km others like the bmw 330e unlikely but for 35km it would return over 100 mpg.
