There's a planning notice in the front window of the former Treasure Chest, saying that one M Bennett is applying for retention permission to convert the remises to retail and commercial use.

Guessing she was never served with an enforcement action in all the years there because of "connections", but has finally got caught when she tried to sell the place.

Nope. That's why I said "guessing".

If you have other ideas of why a high profile business person was allowed to flout planning law for years, please do share.

Once it's over 7 years nothing council could do anyway..but ducks with planning need to be in a row when selling...

The application is here, relates to 20 years ago by the looks of it so just a formality of i's and t's.
