Hi all, I have an Economy 7 storage heater Dimplex CXL24N - 3.4kW Storage Heater + Convector ( there not available anymore) that dos'nt work and needs replacing.

What can I replace it with and does it have to be another storage heater or is there other alternatives ?

    Thanks

Most people seem to retro fit an ECO style heater which does not utilise the off peak electricity but instead runs of normal/day rate tariff. They supposedly are more efficient than similar day rate power heaters and this coupled with the fact you only set them to come on as required makes them a good fit for people who are out of their property most of the working day. Where as the old style E7 storage heaters utilised off peak lower rate electricity and stored the heat in the internal bricks and released the heat over the day all depending what output setting you had the heater on. More times than not even if you had the output on off/low the residual heat stored in the bricks would have leaked out and the property cooled back down due to poor building insulation by the time most people got back home in the evening. So owners ended up boosting the heaters via the day rate electricity anyway.

Dimplex and others do their own versions but below is one from ATC. Keep in mind when sizing they say you don't need to match your existing heater KW output as the newer rads output more heat per KW . A bit like when you replace an old light bulb with an LED version. Most manufacturers will have a comparison chart

Most of these modern day ECO type heaters can be got with a WiFi module as an extra so you can set them on before coming home if your plans change. But probably more cost effective to use some form of a WiFi enabled plug adapter for each unit.

Should be repairable easy enough if you're that way inclined

Usually the cutout pops or elements gone .
