DAC vs Network Player

Hi,

I am looking to upgrade my DAC and I am being tempted by the convenience of a network player - I mainly use a laptop and USB connection. I've looking at the CA DacMagic 200M and the MXN10 or the CXNv2. Maybe get the DAC now and a network player later, or vice versa. Thoughts?

Do you have the 200M and MSN100 in black? Package deal for both?

Any chance of getting the same £100/€120 off the black CXNv2?

The CXN V2 is currently our deal of the week and is reduced by the amounts you listed above.

I can not apply this discount to the other two Cambridge items unfortunately.

The 200M is currently priced at £549 / 599€ but is currently out of stock while we await more into our main warehouse (No ETA confirmed just yet).

This is a newer unit than the 200M. The MXN10 is currently in stock here at the Belfast Store.

The CXN V2 might be the product to go for at the moment due to it's price reduction, currently in stock here at the Belfast store.

Stock is very low on both the CXN V2 and the MXN10 at the moment.

I'll probably go for the CXN v2 then. I see it has balanced XLR out. I have never used that before and interested to try it out but the cheapest pair you have is £169! Does that mean I would be better off using RCA in the region of £50? It will be connected to an Audio Analogue Fortissimo integrated amp.

The XLR cables are expensive unfortunately.

XLR cables are usually balanced (3 pin) and RCA cables are unbalanced (1 pin). The main benefit of balanced cables is their ability to transfer sound signals over much longer runs/distances without signal loss, or interference

RCA works just fine for most and it the cheaper way to connect things.

Chord have .5m priced at 55€ which would be fantastic RDA cable to use.

Everything arrived today. My system is now complete! Very happy with the sound. Though, that StreamMagic app is a bit disappointing, especially, when playing from USB - scrolling through thousands of tracks is painful! I'll have to contact CA.

Hi Jimmy.

Happy Days that everything is now setup.

I haven't used the Streammagic app much myself.

So when you have a HDD or pen drive connected into the USB it just display a long list of the tracks. I take it the music is in folders on the external device that you have?

I'll have a check at this end too for you and see what I can find out. (We might have to set it up instore when we get a moment and test it our ourselves). I'll keep you posted and you can let me know if you hear from CA).

All sorted now.

I had a play around, and the app can't show files and folders together. Of course, I had some singles in the top level Music folder. So, all the Artists folders were not shown. It did have a "Queue All" option which added all the musics from all the folders into the queue which was what I was using. Once, I moved the singles off to a folder, the other folders appeared and everything worked as expected.

Much happier now.

Incidentally, the CXN itself doesn't have this issue, and showed the folders and music files together.
