Pre Dublin Marathon Restaurant Recomendations

Hi,

Our group want a restaurant to eat in before the marathon that serves Pizza, Pasta and possibly "spud" dishes! Its a varied request but anyone have any ideas where in the city centre would do this for the Saturday night. Staying on Harcourt Street.

Luigi Malones in Temple Bar. Went there for lunch the day before last year and it was pretty nice.

Just remember that the Rugby World Cup final is on that night...

Not sure what to recommend restaurant wise, but one thing I do recommend is eating pretty early evening.

5 - 6pm at the latest, and even then not over doing it on the heavy carbs.

Carb loading for DCM should begin early next week, and end on the Friday.

Filling the body with spaghetti on the Saturday night could have you bloated and sluggish the following morning.

You should really begin the process about 10 to 12 days out. Like any form of training it takes a good ten days to see effects.

Everything I've read recommends starting carb loading 2-3 days before race day. I always start 3 days before. I'd be interested to learn the benefits of starting so early. Do you have a link?

Digging through some old podcasts to find where I heard it. Rule of thumb suggested was to gradually increase and focus on carb intake in line with the taper, and ramp up in the closing 3 - 5 days.

Pretty sure it was a nutritionist episode on Running Explained.

After a bit of googling there I see most of the advice is to begin no more than about 5 days out alright though.

Saw an interesting race vlog from a Welsh lad this evening and he mentioned reactive hypoglycemia.

He noted fasting for 4 hours pre race and hitting gels just before race start to avoid the sugar low post meal(usually two hours post a feed). Hard to find hotels that offer a 5am breakfast...

Two and a half hours with gels 10mins before start time usually covers that base though.
