Have you ever driven unaccompanied as a learner driver & been caught out? If so, what excuses did you use & what actually happened? My cousin who is learning to drive & has done her 12 lessons but waiting for an invitation to book her test, is talking about driving unaccompanied but with an adult in the passenger seat who unfortunately does not hold a full licence. But I’m very curious as I know I’ve seen loads of people driving on their own as a learner driver & some people who have company in the car, probably aren’t even with full licensed drivers. She has insurance on her car also

No. And I wouldn't. It's illegal for starters. It's also shortsighted. What would happen in the event of an accident? Insurance company might get pretty sticky and rightly so.

Even if one did do something like this, it would be very foolish to admit to it on social media. The various social media outlets will defend some rights but maintaining the anonymity of someone who has directly confessed to a crime is not one of them, because there is not defence.

And I very much doubt that the insurance company would actually cover her in such a situation, especially if the amounts involved are large and the loss adjusters put it under their magnifying glass.

I certainly did. It was 45 years ago though and legal then. Your cousin's taking a huge risk.

My guess is that you are simply looking for vindication and it's going to happen anyway but ask your cousin the following, easy questions;

1) Is it worth losing your license before even owning it?

2) If you only get points if caught out, will you be able to afford insurance once you do pass?

3) In the event of an accident are you prepared to be severely out of pocket should the insurance company investigate fully (which on a learners permit they are most liable to do)?

My opinion? Just not worth the risk...

No but it's happening all over. So is nattering with mobile in the paw, speeding, no tax, no insurance and general piss poor behaviour. Anything goes.

The chances of getting caught are minuscule.

I know they don't. Some insurance companies trawl Facebook looking for undeclared car mods, but the authorities don't give a shite about social media.

OP I read a case recently about someone bring caught out. They received two penalty points and the car was immediately impounded.

The owner of the car then separately got a summons for a court appearance with the potential of a large fine.

Not worth the risk in this day and age.

I'd advise your cousin not to do it.

Ignoring the law is a poor start in what will hopefully be a lifetime of driving.

Just a word on the "everyone is at it" argument. Your cousin will only be held accountable for her actions if caught and that will be no defence.

Every learner driver has driven unaccompanied. Any fool on here that says they didn't is lying.

There is literally no difference the way you drive on Tuesday and pass your test and drive the next day on a Wednesday.

They'll get away with it if everything is in order , but if anything at all is suspicious they'll both have to present their details to the station within 10 days and then they're both f**ked

I didn't, not even once.

My missus had a full license so I was able to just get her to drive around with me..plenty of others do the same.

If you drive unaccompanied on Tuesday you are committing an offence.

Doesn't matter how well you drive.
