I agree 100%. If anyone can be rehabilitated, it is a child, it's also necessary for them to go through a lot of pain to grow sufficiently to overcome that level of barbarism. If they can do it, I don't see why we should condemn them to the scrap heap of society.

Venables has been released twice and both times was found with child porn. There is no rehabilitation for someone like that, keeping him in prison is even a waste of time and money. Sometimes the death penalty is warranted, he is one of those cases.

Well if that is true then I guess he didn't go through the pain necessary to grow, so yeah he had his chance. In general though, we should present young offenders with a better option .if they waste it then that's on them

Interesting how the ring leader has managed to stay "clean". Seems similar to the leixlip case. One of the pair is more dominant will probably be the one who disappears once released keep his head down.

I think in the UK's case Venables is beyond the beyond. The Brits botched this from day one, they let the nation judge the killers. Trying Thompson and Venables as adults and releasing names and mugshots, what a disaster, but this was uncharted territory and what the boys did to Jamie Bolger was abhorrent.

In the case of Jamie Bulger, i think with Thompson and Venables is hard to judge, on 1 hand you have 2 kids both aged 10 who have undeveloped brains, seemed they may have gone through some trauma themselves but who murdered a younger kid and caused untold grief to their own families and Jamie Bulgers family.

From that perspective i can understand the anger towards them, however I do not think it was justice to treat them like adults in that case considering their mental development at that age. Yes their crime was heinous and no right minded person can disagree with that, however i do not believe they should not have been tried like adults.

They were both young and impressionable enough that rehabilitation had a strong chance to succeed to make them productive members of society. In the case of Venables specifically, after being caught with child porn on multiple occasions, it is obvious rehabilitation has failed in this circumstances and deserves to be locked up for the rest of his day as there is no death penalty.

My biggest questions is was it ever discovered why they did this thing to Jamie Bulger, why did they torture that kid, what happened in their lives to drive them to commit this crime? I believe many other people are responsible for what happened than just Thompson and Venables, something shaped them to do this.
