tractor alternator voltage

Hi, for an old David Brown, what voltage should I be getting coming out of the alternator? im getting around 14.8-15v, even if battery disconnected?!! no change when I connect the battery!! strange or what?

Sounds about right, alternator has to produce a voltage larger than the batteries voltage in order to charge.
You really shouldn't run the alternator without a battery as it could damage it.
