Whats the standard like at the weak end here - I have a gravel bike, do the trails in the phoenix park a bit but have never done a race. Dont want be coming in ten minutes behind the guy in second last guy....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,397 ✭✭✭easygoing39

The B race is what you should enter,it's full of riders just looking for a hard workout and you'll end up racing with someone as fast as you.All the serious lads who race the National Series will be in the A race.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,423 ✭✭✭lizzylad84

Im normally the guy that comes secondnl last 😂. iMO, your well fit for the B race. Not overly technical. Tuesday night winter league running here too, sure come down tomorrow and see how you get on

Going to go for this, does anyone know the route up in Tinahealy, is it used before or is it completely new?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,737 ✭✭✭Tombo2001

Not sure where you getting that IMO from 😂 . How does it work - do people do a warm up first? Like in a running race? Also how long is a race?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,423 ✭✭✭lizzylad84

Yeah you willbbe able to do a warm upnlap first, race is apros 45 wish minutes. Yesterdays race in falls pk was 40 mins.

Planning to sign up for the Epic CX. Is there any issue with running bigger tires in the B race? I'd be on my gravel bike with 42mm tires

There won't be an issue in the B race for 42mm tyres. Lots of people run their mountain bikes so you'll be grand..

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 25,523 Mod ✭✭✭✭CramCycle

You won't be as aero is the main issue

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 298 ✭✭this.lad

Going to give it a lash this year myself. Id imagine that aero will be the least of my concerns 🥵

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 25,523 Mod ✭✭✭✭CramCycle

    Anyone know the EPIC course?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,423 ✭✭✭lizzylad84

Is there a full cx calander for the upcoming season yet doea nyone know?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,152 ✭✭✭Tenzor07

It's a brand new course, most likely will follow all the MX bike tracks! :-D

Could also look like this ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,152 ✭✭✭Tenzor07

I didn't see a specific calendar, just have to look through the CI eventmaster site: https://eventmaster.ie/events

Don't think I've ever seen such a packed CX season, every weekend there's at least 1 or 2 CX races somewhere in the country so there's plenty of choice...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,423 ✭✭✭lizzylad84

Due to family commitments, saturday races suit me better than sundays. Must have a gander later and see whats on

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,423 ✭✭✭lizzylad84

This saturdays race in mccrystals (first in the K series) has been cancelled, due to low numbers. Refunds being sent out to thise that already registered

I was dissappointed to hear this as I was looking forward to saturdays race.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 25,523 Mod ✭✭✭✭CramCycle

Its a tough one with both the Leinster and Ulster season kicking off, a pity though as McCrystals is a class venue

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,423 ✭✭✭lizzylad84

Yeah, i live in dubdalk so its great to have it on my doorstep. Fingers crossed the numbers pick up for the next one

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,824 ✭✭✭levitronix

im going to go take a look Thursdays next week, id say they are riding it as they're cutting it out hopefully.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,824 ✭✭✭levitronix

Sunday was metal in belfast by the time i got out on course it was cut up and a mud slog. The off camber bits on the back of the course were so much fun

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,423 ✭✭✭lizzylad84

Falls pk was epic, my first time racing up there abd already looking forward to next years.

Oldcastle cx (october 8th) also a great setup and great racing

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 25,523 Mod ✭✭✭✭CramCycle

Anyone know of any of the Munster CX dates this year?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,999 ✭✭✭68 lost souls

If you are going to do the B races in Leinster league is there a set time you need to be there to register?

family commitments Saturday morning but with the race not starting until 2pm it might be feasible to do

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,397 ✭✭✭easygoing39

You usually have to sign on and collect your number/chip 20 mins before the call up time.So Id say 1.30pm at the latest.

    Kinnings cx today. Orangefield park.

Bit of a disaster, followed postcide directions on eventmaster page abd ended up the oposite side of the park from the race, got to the course just at b race was due to start. No time for warm up or practice lap. Not as much mud as falls park last week. Good layout.

Mccrystals cx this (and every) tuesday

    EEpic mtb cx next saturday

    Mccrystals cx saturday 7th

    Oldcastle cx sunday 8th.

Anyone know of Nu other upcoming Saturday races?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,999 ✭✭✭68 lost souls

Signed up for the Epic MTB race, will be my first ever and first bike race outside of some track a few years ago. Anything to look out for as a newbie?

Am I right in saying that as an unattached rider I cannot wear a jersey with logos of non cycling Ireland club (eg a triathlon club) which most of my gear is?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,423 ✭✭✭lizzylad84

Yeah, un attacked rider CANNOT wear jersey with logos as you said. As far as i know, the agreed colour is black, however, today in belfast i seen at least three riders in the b race wearing different galibier jerseys

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 25,523 Mod ✭✭✭✭CramCycle

Once it's plain, no logos or designs that could be mistaken for logos/teams. Is it strictly enforced in the B race, I'd have my doubts but better safe than sorry.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 25,523 Mod ✭✭✭✭CramCycle

There is 3 different calendars on this page but one of them seems fairly up to date with the weekend races

what was this last year 10 euro? and very ordinary drinks and food stalls both in terms of quantity and quality!

Racing was class as was the atmosphere!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,015 ✭✭✭Paddigol

Can't remember. Food and drinks offering was pretty crap alright. Hope they have something better lined up this year, particularly given the support the public gave to the last event. Will definitely be heading along anyway... €17 seems like v. good value to me if the same calibre of riders show up again this year in the mens and womens events.

Did anyone have a look at kiltiper Park yet ?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 25,523 Mod ✭✭✭✭CramCycle

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53 ✭✭breadevery

First CX race for me tomorrow in Kiltipper. I'll probably cycle to it as its nearby, but with the weather forecast being rainy, I'll have a bag with jacket etc.. Is it usually acceptable to leave a bag by the side of the course somewhere while racing? Or is there even a specific place stuff can be left? Obviously not going to put any valuables in there

Typically you can throw it in or around the sign on tent but as with everything it is at your own risk

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 325 ✭✭ciarsciars

Doesn't seem to be a Connaucht League this year. I see a race in Ballina on 1st Nov, but that's it I think?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,423 ✭✭✭lizzylad84

Theres normally someone who will mind it for you,

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 25,523 Mod ✭✭✭✭CramCycle

Hearing good reports from the EPIC race today, annoyed I couldn't make it, damned work. Hope it's back next year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,824 ✭✭✭levitronix

Really good race, the course seemed to hold up fine, the weather was just mental

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 622 ✭✭✭niallo32

Loved the race and the course was great

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,824 ✭✭✭levitronix

Probably the best one of the best natural courses on the calendar is next in Oldcastle.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,423 ✭✭✭lizzylad84

Love the set up in oldcastle. Bit of everything. Great wooded section

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,122 ✭✭✭Peterx

EPIC MTB put on a lovely course yesterday, natural and somehow very flowy, despite the many tight turns it was a nice length, the start finish comes round pleasingly regularly. The course holds up really well in really heavy rain. And we had really heavy rain yesteray. A one bike course is where it's at too. Cycle there, raced, cycled home. Well done to all the organisers.

Anyone know the Carrick on Suir course this Sunday, any descriptions out there?
