New Laptop - Graphics & Screen

Need to upgrade, so here's my criteria..

I'm a tour coach driver & my routine is to go over the next day's routes on Google maps with Streetview & the odd time Google Earth.

The issue with my current laptop (HP EliteBook 840 G3 with Intel HD graphics 520) is that the screen resolution is basically shite, no secondary roads are visible on the screen and the viewing angle is woeful.

It's an i5 which I'm also finding a bit lacking.

I presume a dedicated card is the way to go?

I'm happy enough with a 14 - 15" for portability, it will be connected to a monitor when at home & used for general use, browsing, spreadsheets, some photo editing etc.

Budget €700 - €900.

Not worried about OS, I assume it will come with Win 11.

a newer generation i5 would do you fine . u just need a decent fhd screen .

no need for a graphics card to view maps really

if your not plugged in power saving mode might affect the quality of what your viewing aswell so watch that

Was aware of that, it's just a crap screen 😄

On Google maps major roads (M & N roads) are in yellow so no issues there. It's the R & L roads, which are white, that are invisible against the light green background, especially when you zoom in.

It makes it very time consuming when you're constantly taking the peg man just to see where a road is 😣

yes you will get a lot more value online and even them we pay a lot more than us prices

Don't worry, I'm not going to bombard the place with links & suggestions! It's been a while since I've purchased so I'm out of touch with the current specs, just trying to calibrate myself 😀

i hope this doesnt sound smart/sarcastic or whatever, but maybe play around with your screen/display settings to see can you fix this? im not familiar with that laptop maybe it is just the screen itself is rubbish but i find it strange that it is the problem

The Lenovo Ideapad Pro 5 linked below (€919) is a pretty decent machine for the price. If you sign up for their newsletter, they will email you a discount code for a further 10% off. Screen res is 2880x1800 so very sharp with a 120Hz refresh rate as a bonus, brightness is decent too at 400 nits. The Ryzen 7 processor will perform well, 16GB RAM is ok, SSD is a little small at 512GB, but you could always upgrade that later.

its ok for what is is smallish screen and refurbished , so was returned with an issue likely
