If you're early enough to add Heartworms to your warm up day I'd recommend it, really like them. Try "Jacked" if you haven't listened to them yet

My mum lives in Wales (she's Welsh, so she has an excuse!), I really must get to Green Man one year, looks class. Enjoy!

Factory Floor! I'd no idea they were still operating. I'd be spending all Thursday in that tent.

I've been 3 times now. I think it's a great city festival. There is only 4 stages, with 2 stages on at a time so don't be expecting Electric Picnic variety. It's all over by 11 or 12. Paris gets dark much earlier that Ireland so you get to see proper light shows for the headliners. No bar queues.

Festival site is last stop on a metro line so my main recommendation is book a hotel walking distance to one of the stops on the line and the trip home after will be easy.

Really tempted to go this year myself, the Sunday in particular is stacked.

Thanks, thats great info. If you had any hotel recommendations id be happy to hear them (feel free to DM).
The Sunday looks good, and think it would be possible to fly over the Sunday morning book in and head out to the venue then in time to see some of the main acts.

Gutted I missed this year - which was headlined by Coheed & Cambria, Taking Back Sunday, Alexisonfire, Pvris and Kneecap.

Weather was supposed to be a killer though.

Nice one. Another that I'd love to hear a bit about.

Oh, it's a fantastic festival. Only been the once (last year) but loved the place - great vibe, full of sound people, amazing food and drink (local beer from Arbor Ales.. lovely change from Diageo/ Heineken from LiveNation).

One open Main Stage and the very cool Forest Stage (as below) and all the rest are tents.

    1000034431.jpg

Last year - watched some great acts I knew (Frank Turner, Manchester Orchestra, The Gaslight Anthem, Spanish Love Songs, Bob Vylan, Los Campesinos) and some great acts I didn't know about (Hot Milk, grandson, Don Broco, Turnover, Boston Manor, Hot Mulligan).

They also do VIP for an extra £80 which, while it sounds like a lot, you get a lot for your money including exclusive VIP bar (with free glass of prosecco on arrival) and entry into arena, VIP camping area and showers, a raised platform towards back of the Main Stage (which gets great sound), merch bag with shirt and beer koozies and few other bits (badges, poster etc).

Oh, and it's free flow too but their motto is "heroes buy beeros" which you definitely would as there's lovely draft beer (as mentioned).

Handy for me too as regular flights from Knock to Birmingham and Bristol.

    Can't recommend it enough.

A week out from Green Man, a few heading from here i think? Looking at the EP second announcement yesterday, I offered up a silent prayer of gratitude that I made the jump. A packed Clashfinder again this year. I mean the list of acts I CAN'T see because I'm at someone else would make a decent festival..the Joy, Ditz, Pissed Jeans, los Campesinos, John Grant, Panda Bear, Greentea Peng, Alan Sparhawk, Jasmine 4t, Allegra Krieger, YHWH Nailgun, Daisy Rickman, Perfume Genius, Kokoroko, Underworld, Richard Dawson, Cass McCombs, Good Sad Happy Bad, Divorce, Been Stellar, Cassandra Jenkins, Nilufer Yanya......

Weather looking great at this point (I know, I know), can't wait.

Also, for what it's worth, someone on the efestivals forum posted that the secret dj set in Round the Twist on Sunday evening is Getdown Services. That'd be pretty amazing. Clashing with TV on the Radio. Decisions decisions.....

Yeah looks great. Think Ill do it next year. And EOTR.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 270 ✭✭CorkClaire82

I wasn't sure if that was someone bullsh*tting or not but I'll be at TVOTR with bells on, I'm annoyed they are clashing with Big Special but I've seen them twice the last year and never TVOTR so easy choice.

This time next week we'll be festival bound/hopefully there!

Eden Festival in Dumfries and Galloway in Scotland, usually on the same dates as Beyond the Pale, with similar enough line ups at times. Capacity for 5,000 people.

And Knockengorroch Festival 3 days at the end of May also in Dumfries and Galloway in Scotland. Also fairly eclectic line ups worth checking.

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

Lads! What a weekend! Beautiful, sun drenched Wales! Hands down the best weekend of music I've ever had. WH Lung, Delivery, BC Camplight, Naima Bock Los Campesinos, Adult DVD, Rocket, MJ Lenderman, Westside Cowboy, English Teacher, CMAT, Being Dead, Warmduscher, Divorce, Yard Act, Joshua Idehen, Beth Gibbons.....every set incredible. I'm leaving out a tonne of stuff i saw and loved, so difficult to pick highlights.

We're having a moment, us Irish. The amount of people, Englush, Welsh, walking around in Bohs tops, Irish jerseys, county jerseys..incredible. Kneecap were bedlam on Thursday, never seen Far Out tent like that, very entertaining stuff. CMAT packed the main stage arena and had everyone in the palm of her hand. Oisín Leech great in the Walled Garen, Chalk too.

MJ Lenderman probably my favourite set of the weekend but Yard Act blew me away. I wasn't sure the main stage Sunday evening was for them but they were incredible. He's a fantastic front man, love his lyrics, had the place bouncing.

If you've never listened to Joshua Idehen, do yourself a favour. A beautiful man. Saw him twice yesterday, I'm still smiling thinking about it.

Adult DVD. Next year's Getdown Services. Great craic.

I'm coming away really appreciating the fact that's it's independent. They're their own masters. A few of the artists commented on the fact that they stuck with Kneecap and **** the consequences. No politicians to keep happy, no corporate sponsors.

    You can keep your Glasto.

Really enjoyed a day at Sziget 2 weeks ago. Was €90 including charges for the day ticket and we stayed in the city centre. Loved that it was a city based festival. Would recommend to anyone

EDIT: if you have any other city based festivals to recommend, fire away.

Hi folks, thinking of going to Green Man or EOTR next year, and solo at that. What are people's recommendations? I'm leaning towards Green Man on account of the dates.

I will say I was just at EP this year, and while good, it felt like too many type of things were clashing with each other in terms of the festival trying to be everything to all people.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 4,799 ✭✭✭Stillill42

Highly recommend both. I've done the last 2 Green Man solo and EOTR in 2023 and had an absolute blast at all 3. Smaller, incredible music, friendly, gorgeous sites, just loved them. I've already bored the hole off everyone with big reviews for them in here so I'll leave it at that. I'll link the reviews and feel free to ask any questions, be happy to help.

Think I've asked about Green Man in the past and you have sold the dream!

Was thinking about it again yesterday, and had question you might have an idea about this.…is there a market for resales, both buying and selling?

Was thinking of trying to buy one , but If I couldn't go id be hoping to sell it handy enough. Or, if I hold off til next would you have a sense of tickets becoming available

    EOTR

Not a vintage lineup for me by any means but had an absolute blast - La Securite, Roge, Good Looks, Bug Club, COFFIN, Goat, Mo Syfkhan, Caribou, Matt Berninger, Muireann Bradley, Jerron Paxton, Tyler Ballgame, Throwing Muses, Ducks Ltd, Adam Riches Dungeons n Bastards, Ryan Davis and the Roadhouse Band (Twice), Sylvie Kreusch, Tropical f**k Storm, Squid, Blawan, For Those I Love isn't a bad return.

It's on sale on the 27th of September and will sell out on a flash. Generally loads on resale in the last few weeks before festival, that's how I got mine the first year. Apparently a lot harder to pick one up this year. So yeah, you'll have no bother getting rid of one, might be tougher picking one up.
