What law breaking would make you give up a friend ship besides the obvious of a sex crime or something to do with kids

Drink driving?

Drug taking or selling?

Cheating on taxes

Speeding

Knocking a pedestrian down

I would dump a friend who i know is habitually cheating on his wife or partner.

The cheating will at any stage be directed at you. Watch out.

Accepting corrupt payments from a builder if they were a politician. If the amount was over half a million. Gotta draw the line somewhere.

Personally I think id forgive most crimes bar the ones I excluded already.

Except if while drunk you hit someone or speeding.

What exactly would be the definition of giving up a friendship? Would it be just avoiding the person as much as possible or actually calling them out and telling them not to contact you?

Tbh, I've generally found anyone who has a casual attitude towards abiding by the law pretty intolerable

It isn't so much the crime itself, it's more the attitude that they're happy to cause havoc and let everyone else deal with the consequences

Knew a few lads over the years who would steal pints or start arguments in pubs and get themselves chucked out

Of course the rest of us would either have to deal with the BS of apologising for our friends behaviour or would often get chucked out alongside them

Not exactly heinous crimes but enough to make their company head wrecking, so I started to avoid heading out when they were out

I guess to look at it in a different way, taking the OPs example of speeding. I probably wouldn't disassociate from someone who got some points for speeding one time, but if they said they'd multiple speeding offences then I'd be very reluctant to get into a car with them driving for my own wellbeing

Drugs, sex crimes, murder...If they were ‘habitually’ violent also, that’s a no….

I don’t know anyone in my friends / family circle with a criminal record… . The most severe interaction with the law that anyone has to my knowledge…is receiving a couple of penalty points…

I agree both are bad but I don't think I ever said anything about leaving a scene of a crime or killing a pedestrian

It's a tough one. If a very close/good friend, I would forgive anything except anything involving child sex abuse and/or a sex crime. I have supported a very good friend who broke the law 25 years ago.
