This last while 98fm has been playing their song pitched (like SPIN 1038)

Hasn’t that been happening for a couple of years at least?

It only seemed to be some tracks previously but my wife had it on today and it seemed to be all of them.

A few presenters have been posting on Instagram about changes to 98FM’s weekends.

Rachael Ryan, Shelly Grey, Barry Dunne and Andy Gleeson are all gone and replaced by Paul Ryder and Ben Murray.

They’ve added a best of Brian Dowling and Suzanne Kane show for Saturday mornings as well

Good to see that Ben is back on air.

Overall it seems like a streamlining and cost cutting exercise.

Hopefully those who were dropped will show up elsewhere.

I know the name Shelly Grey from TX FM and Today FM. Barry Dunne has been a presenter with 98FM since 1996, which makes him the longest lasting presenter on the station. He has been with them more than 27 years. Barry was also the main caller to members of the public for the Cash Machine across the Go Loud network! I wonder where he will go. Perhaps he will turn up on FM104 or Q102.

Rachael is the weekday breakfast producer and Barry is the weekday afternoon presenter. Can't imagine six day weeks are easy going!

While as far as I know Andy's main role is behind the scenes across Bauer and Shelly has often mentioned that she works fulltime weekdays outside her 98FM and Today FM gigs.

Barry is only gone from Sundays, not Monday to Friday.

    @ILikeBoats

when people talk about songs being pitched, what they mean is that the songs are being played at a slightly higher key and tempo.

stations do this to allow more music to be played, and a belief that it makes the station sound more exciting to listen to, all though people have different views on whether they like the tactic or not.

it started in the US on the early top 40 stations i believe and then spread.

I'm very highly educated. I know words, i have the best words, nobody has better words then me.

Didn't 98FM go through a phase of editing songs down to 2 minutes 30 or something like that so they could boast that they played more songs per hour than other stations?

Here are some former 98FM presenters still on Irish radio:

Radio Nova: Jim McCabe, Marty Miller, Dee Woods, Pat Courtenay, Greg Gaughren (almost all of the weekday presenters!), Matt Dempsey and Andy Clarke

Classic Hits: Trina Mara, Ruth Scott, Brian Walsh, Niall Boylan and Enda Murphy (and Robbie Fogarty behind the scenes)

Sunshine 106.8: Robbie Fogarty and Enda Murphy

    Today FM: Dave Moore

Newstalk: Tom Dunne and Richie McCormack (used to do sports on 98FM)

Q102: Aidan Cooney, Debbie Allen, Liam Coburn, Paul Bradley (I think) and Martin King (better known for his tv work of course)

    East Coast FM: Jim O'Neill

    iRadio: Steven Cooper

I find it very noticeable but some don't. It's the equivalent of turning up the speed control on a record player.

It’s more difficult to spot these days because improved technology means they can increase the tempo of the song without increasing the pitch.

You’d be surprised at how many broadcast outlets do it, particularly during automated programming where there’s a need to hit a junction (or a top of hour) at a specific time. Your program hour maybe running a few seconds early (or late) but with subtle use of time stretching on certain material the timing error can be fixed.

Mark Cagney is the VO for Newstalk.

Theres a lot of ex 98FM news/sport people still on the air including Ray Kennedy, John Duggan, Tara Duggan, Alan Cantwell, Geraldine Lynagh, Sharon Tobin (?)

KC from RedFM did a brief stint in 98. Matthieu Norrie (hey baby!) fills in for Marty Whelan occasionally on Lyric.

Dara Quilty is still occasionally heard on TodayFM. Dec Pearse has his weekend show there too.

Kathryn McKiernan has been added to Saturdays At 3pm Replacing Ben Murray and with a new photo

Matthieu Norrie is no longer a Marty fill in on Lyric, has not been for around 4 years.
