don’t suppose any news on that illusive Renault 5 yet no? 😀

They said around February but Renaults dates for launching cars here aren't too reliable

@derekreilly said it will be at the NEVO exhibition in November, so I would expect pricing to be available by then.

Drove the Megan and Scenic back to back. The Megan is a really nice car, but the Scenic definitely feels like a step up in terms of refinement. Also addresses the Meganes major failing which is rear seat space. Both super cars though.

I have the Megane and love it, trying to work out would I go for the Scenic next. Its a lovely looking car.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,359 ✭✭✭Stallingrad

If you really need the extra space and can justify it then it maybe. But they share so much in the interior that it's a lot of money to sit behind what is essentially the same dashboard and user experience!

I managed to rent a Scenic EV with Esprit Alpine Trim at Brussels airport for 5 days and drove it across Belgium and Germany, roughly about 1500 km. The car is spacious. We were 5: 2 adults, 2 teen and one 8 years old with booster and we didn't feel crammed. The boot is large and because my family does not travel light we managed to squeeze in 2 large suitcases, 4 small and some backpacks, all without obstructing the central rear-view mirror. It is one of the deepest trunks I have seen in EVs. The car feels very well build and felt smoother than the model Y. A bit noisier but that can be subjective. Absolutely no issue with charging, just to note that the guys from rental gave us single phase cable, so we couldn't take advantage of the 22kW AC charging this car claims to have. That was not an issue as the hotel had a bank of chargers and I was charging overningt. The charging port is located on right side above the front wheel, which is nice when using the SuC. The software is Android Auto based but I found it buggy. Few times on autobahn the navigation would disappear which at 150km/h is not the best thing to happen. I liked the interior the portrait screen maybe not so friendly with my varifocal specs but very well build overall. Car greets you with some J M Jarre tune when entering, led strips with customizable colors, lots of buttons for those who like them. The gripe I have is the fact that on the right side of the driving wheel it has 3 levers

As seen in the picture above, the top one is gear shifter, middle wipers control and bottom media control. Probably you get used with their relative position but the number of times I started the wipers instead of reversing was hilarious. I liked the adaptive cruise control, it felt refined with very smooth actions in comparison with Tesla which I normally drive at home. You'd feel safe when the car was in this mode, unlike with Tesla which is like a teen spirit. I DC charged only once at the SuC before returning the car, which was my first experience as non Tesla. Very nice and responsive. The charging speed was pretty poor in comparison with what I'm used, especially on the higher-ish SoC. The efficiency of the car was 19kWh/100km which I suppose is on the same level with many of its competitors. Range is the least important to me but it was 500km+, with GOM displaying once 588 km at full. The GOM would have a setting to show a min (for driving on the motorway) and a max (for driving in the city), along with some predicted range based on your driving.

I had to dig on the Irish Renault website and found a suggested price of 49,895. A lot of money for a lot of car. I must say I like it. I'm not in the market I'll be driving my Teslas for a good wile now but bar few niggles with software and charging speed I think this is a very good family car.

I've driven both. The Scenic had a far greater sense of occasion on the interior, much more pleasing design and for a better Infotainment. The driving experience was similar in both, both very quiet and refined though the Scenic felt better isolated from the world around. You won't go wrong with either, personally I think the Scenic is a far more interesting design and much more interesting and premium feeling interior.

Well since the other thread for the Scenic is not working I decided to start a new one. Hopefully the mods can fix the old one and join this to it when they do.

So the Renault Scenic has been voted Best Irish medium SUV 2025

Both great cars. I think the Sea lion 7 will be the more expensive one do, but it's a great car. Lots of videos of both on You-Tube now. The Seats in the Scenic are so comfy.

Really comes down to which one you like the most.

    Hi Folks.

It's my first time going down the full electric route (currently a PHEV owner) and I'm seriously thinking of the Renault Scenic.

I drove it yesterday and was pretty impressed, very comfortable and a really nice drive.

I also drove the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the gadgets just blew me away but I just didnt like the drive compared to the Scenic.

Just wondering any owners of the Scenic can share their thoughts on it? I'm particularly looking at the Techno version

I don't think there's any owners here that post regularly but in my opinion, the scenic and Mégane are both seriously lovely cars. Are you looking at standard battery or long range? Serious range in the longer one but I'd imagine it's a lot pricier so do your sums on that. It has more power too but I'd say there's plenty in the lower powered one unless you're a very keen driver, the instant torque in them all make them lively.

I saw both cars at Nevo show and I was impressed. Great prices on them too and I hope they do well.

The scenic is a much nicer place to be than an i5. The seats are superior, the dash is superior abd it's just s better looking much classier more modern car than the i5 in every way. The only other car that might be worth a look is a Skoda Elroq a nice car too.

Ha, say ioniq 5 will you! Thought you were comparing it to the BMW there for a minute

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56,089 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

Ill be going the long range

Maybe i'm wrong on this but it seems the Scenic has more features available by default where as the Elroq you have to pay for those extra features such as a heat pump

Lol. That gave me a good laugh. Thank you. Is there a BMW i5?

Yes I think you are right so still the better car.

Oh they fixed the thread. Maybe it was me that broke it, as my last picture is not complete.

As I said in the post above, I really liked the Scenic. As a Tesla Y owner I could say it was superior on the interior comfort. It is true, hard to find speed bumps on German roads but I'm going to give it to Scenic. Comfier, classier. Software wise hmm. Overall I really liked it and I would say lovely car. Ioniq 5, I had a spin with it, and I'm reserved to use some PC here. For me EV6 is above it. Anyway my vote goes to Scenic.

Have you driven or even travelled in any of these cars?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56,089 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

I went to a Kia Garage today and the EV3 has put a spanner in the works. I was looking at the Scenic Techno and out of interest went to a Kia Garage and they've provided me a quote for the Earth 3, ill be saving 90 euro a month on PCP compared to the Scenic

    That's some big difference

Sure if can live with the fact the centre table is so cheap and there is no hidden centre storage at all and are happy with the way the EV3 drives go for it.

The centre table is optional iirc. Without it I'm sure there's bin storage. Could be wrong mind you but seem to recall hearing about it in a review.

Nope it is standard on the top spec and no still not much storage if there is.

The Scenic is objectively a much nicer place to be over an EV3, than 90 quid a month would suggest.
