The ambition is a Damaszener but I'll probably get there via an 857utc.

The 104 was an impulse buy when it went up on TZ. I need to work on my impulse control 🤣 but, yeah you're right I will likely keep trading in and out of them. I think I'm on my 3rd U2SDR, everytime I let one go, I miss them immediately.

And another vote for the Seamaster 300 pro automatic from me. It's such a class watch, a true classic. @IrishHomer - it was my grail watch for many years and then I could finally afford one - I was only a few years younger than you are now. I was very happy with it, wore it for several years until that bastard @Fitz II not only enabled me but also indocrinated me that Rolex was where it was at (hated them before). And I fell for it 😂

@micks_address - "you can get quartz seamasters which obviously have a battery - classic 'goldeneye' reference.. from around 1996.. i bought one two year ago from chrono24 for a really good price of 1400 and sold it for less to a local here :)"

Don't tell lies now Mick, I had to push hard to buy it off you at €1400, so you ended up not losing a cent on it 😁 Great watch though, a bit thinner and lighter than the automatic

@cnocbui - "Don't go for an Omega Seamaster or any other expensive mechanical watch. These require regular servicing at a cost each time that exceeds the cost of most 'normal' watches. This means you part with your watch for far longer and with greater inconveniance and cost than a simple battery change.

Get a Citizen Ecodrive, preferably a perpetual calendar one. They don't need replacement batteries, or winding or an expensive specialised box to shake them to keep them running, like automatics. I have one that has run continuously, bar a few days, for 30 years without a penny having to be spent on it.

That is a forever watch. A perpetual would only need the date setting once and the time whenever those daylight saving idiocies happen, or if you move time zones."

Sure might as well get a €7 F-91W

BTW I have never had to have any automatic watch serviced. I'd say most quality mechanical watches will run fine for decades without servicing, even a €300 Seiko

Hard to believe that someone comes on here with a budget of €1600 and a lot of people are saying buy a Seiko. It’s not that long ago, ok 7/8 years when a decent Seiko diver could be bought new for €200. I’m just glad I got interested in watches when I did. Haven’t felt the urge to buy anything for 3 years now.

Just be careful OP, it’s a slippery slope, looking for a watch is half the fun, take your time.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Less than 5 years ago I paid €137 for a Seiko SKX009 brand new from Creation 😁

The skx go for crazy money now .I’ve the 007 which is 2011 & 009 which is 2014 and both seem to be keeping time well , obviously never serviced .I went for a swim last week down in Brittas bay and had one on my wrist and thankfully still waterproof.I wouldn’t have worn it in if I’d thought about it as would have assumed the seals would be gone .Maybe I just got lucky .
