I used to think you would be rich on 80k 100k then I found out half your money is stolen from you and you get nothing in return. Dubai has no oil but yet has 0% tax it is nothing sort of legalised robbery in this country. What is the reason or reasons we must be a worse run country than corrupt African countries.

Yeah... you lose half your pay over 40k ... in Dublin in particular on 40k , you're a poverty case... 80-100k if you have a family, rent or mortgage, is nothing... for a start, if you're on 100k and single, that is actually 62,755 a year after tax. One bed apartment in Dublin 2k a month plus 300 month bills = 27600 a year on rent and bills...

Dubai has an economy based on helping companies avoid taxation in other countries, If you believe there is 0% tax in Dubai you are wrong, it is just a different type of tax than income tax.

I dont buy in to that its 220 a week on dole medical card are extra etc but still. 120k in Ireland is 6k a month after tax for single people if you make a big jump to 150k which is hard you only get around 7k. 30 grand extra and you end up with a 1,000 per month increase after tax

When the European comission first floated a proposal to make the disclosure of beneficiaries of trusts mandatory, Ireland objected furiously.

The roads you can drive on? The lights that illuminate your street? The sewers under your feet? The hospitals you can go to if you are sick? The nurses and doctor who will look after you? The state run institutions like museums, universities and governmental buildings?

Social protections like Jobseeker's so you know you'll have an income if you lose your job? Illness benefit?

The effective tax rate is what counts. It is nowhere near half of earned income for most people. And it has come down compared to the old days.

I'm guessing OP is a woman with the username Honey? Enjoy life in Dubai, don't have any PDAs or it might become less idyllic very quickly.

Anyone I know who has gone to Dubai went short-term to save a house deposit. While it's certainly an experience, you won't have the same quality of life or personal freedoms there.

Exaggerate much? they are taking 52% on earnings over I think it is €70k, how much are they taking off you on earnings below that? not 52% that's for sure, you would have to be earning millions to be able to say they are taking 52% off you. Are you earning millions?

You are paying 52% on some of your income. Combine your taxable income with your tax free income (tax credit) to work out your effective tax rate.

I worked it out before. To be giving the government over 50% of your income you need to be earning ~€750,000 p/a minimum. That's as a single adult with no deductions.

I think you need to brush up on your tax rates for this country.......
