Recently got a water softener

wondering where everyone buys their salt and does it make much or any difference getting different types. See 25 kg bags between €10 and €30 on the web

Anyway, looking around Dublin if anyone knows where is cheap

If you have a Chadwicks nearby, check them out. My local Chadwicks, in Drogheda, sells 25kg bags for 14.95 euro.

That's the best value I've found.

The cost of salt has almost doubled since I got my softener about 18 months ago - I was paying 8 euro per bag then!

Do share the €10 location OP - my current source is Topline Murtaghs for 25Kg tablets for €14.

I second the near doubling of salt costs in the past year or so. Hopefully it will start coming down.

Can't tell you the exact price, but my local Circle K (not in Dublin unfortunately), sells them, for around 12. Nothing like 20-30 that you were quoted on the web.

Ordered 8 x 15kg bags from EWT in April for €10.30 a bag, I see it's €14 these days, jacked up 36% jayzis.

I buy from my local coop. Have been paying 7.95 then 8.95 for about the last 5 years for a 25kg bag.

Last time I went in a few weeks ago they had gone up to 14 per bag. Shocking increase.

With postage that Ashbourne one is 21 - but they look to be the nice pellets - woodies is the harder to shovel random shards.

That's where I get mine. Have been that price for at least the past year I'd say. They even lift it in to the back of your car for you.

I used to get bags of Axal Pro in Murtaghs as well for less then 10 I'm sure. They don't do them anymore. Last place I got them was whites agri for 14.50

Thanks for the Monahan's option, any idea how it compares to the Axal stuff?

That Broxo salt is very poor, it leaves a lot of sediment in the tank. I usually use Axal Pro but I'm trying the Hydrosoft one as it is much cheaper

Hydrosoft is the only 1 I have used.

It works well, and doesn't crumble or dissolve. It was recommended by the installer.

I mean, why such a variance in price between those 3 options? Is one better than the other and in what way?

Question for you folks,

How much salt are you using in a domestic setup ? We got a water softener fitted during our house refurb, I've no idea how it works or got any instructions. Its set up to automatic regens etc., i just chuck in a shovel load every week or two and seems use it up to run fine.

A 25kg bag would prob last 2-3 months.

I am the same a bag every 3 months with six of us in the house.

Sorry to hijack the thread but someone could be in the same position?

Would anyone know where to get a replacement drinking water filter. I am using the Everpure 4CB5 cartridge. The last one I bought from Amazon 2 years ago was €40. Amazon have none instock but they are looking for €175 for one here.

They have a 4C cartridge for €90. Does anyone know if that would that work?

It all depends on how your softener is set. This will depend on how hard the water is in your area.

Where I live the water is very hard and I use approx. 1 x 25kg bag per month

We got installed mid May and have gone through nearly 2 bags. Probably ok for another few weeks
