Will be interesting to see if Farrell plays on Saturday and also what sort of reaction he gets especially given the fact his dad is our coach.

I'd say Borthwick will be happy that the intensity of England hate is peaking just intimate. The louder the crying the more will be their siege mind. They literally have nothing to lose as the assumption is they are headed for oblivion.

That's all well and good but at some stage they are going to have to play a bit of rugby and Borthwick's team has shown little ability to do that thus far.

I’m not expecting any results but spite can make them hard to beat.

I don't think it is that bizarre. It was a slightly weird way of justifying overruling the bunker official and essentially boils down to "he told us he didn't mean to do it".

Moala got 5 weeks. Pita Ahki completely jumped the gun in his online post.

    https://www.world.rugby/news/832645/independent-disciplinary-update-george-moala-tonga

It was 10 week entry level for a mid-range offence and he was granted the maximum mitigation of 50%.

Completely fair enough. Still ends Moala's chances of playing in a RWC.

    whats bizarre is two things:

    1. they are implicitly saying that "we're not saying the bunker decision was wrong, but the bunker decision was wrong"
    2. they are saying the bunker decision was wrong because they dont have the "benefit" of the players legal representation into the decision making process. No referee red card, or TMO review, has ever had the benefit of the players legal representative input, so its a bizarre reference which is only there to buttress their decision, because they know their decision is extremely controversial.

The Times of London has an article today where they list TEN high profile dangerous tackles by Farrell. It's not like the guy doesn't have form.

He's practically copyrighted that leading with the shoulder to the opponents head "tackle."

Mike Tindall had Jonathon Davis on his podcast to discuss it and they believe it's bizarre and a reflection of rugby being all over the place when it comes to trying to make it safer.

Fair play to Ben Healy, backed himself to get international rugby and all going well will be playing at a RWC. Dream come true stuff.

Awful decision! Farrell is a menace and deserved to be banned. Taine Basham should put out a statement! Something along the lines of his suffering and his ability to get back to good health.

Looks to be number 2 out-half, so probably number 22 for them, assuming Kinghorn is their starting fullback.

Although, just checked their two-match test series with France they opted for a centre instead of an out-half on the bench for the first match, probably Kinghorn as out-half cover, and in the second match they went with a 6-2 bench. So Healy may not necessarily be second choice out-half, nor make the bench, if they see Kinghorn as the backup.

The red card decision seems in keeping with the current Australian leniency in relation to incidents like this, as they struggle to complete with Rugby League and Aussie Rules football in the brutality stakes.

I've been looking for some stats of number of illegal high tackles in Australian rugby, amount of penalties for these offenses, number of citations, number of bans, HIA's etc. I can't find the stats anywhere even though everyone here seems to know all about it.

    Anyone care to share?

Sexton gets three matches for slagging the ref.

Farrell, with more grievious previous than probably anyone else in the game, gets off.

    Stinks.

Yes and Yes. This is why World Rugby must appeal.

WR have made provision for these in game decisions with 'The Bunker' for a Foul Play Review Officer (FPRO) + a supporting FPRO. They have been undermined.

When you introduce "judicial" into any sport it lends itself to ambiguity and ultimately confusion.

    Inevitable

These "Independent Judiciary Panels" need to be abolished.

Unfortunately it wont happen any time soon. Blood sucking lawyers also need to get paid!

Not the last we will hear of Casselden (chair) and Langford either. Both on the 2023 RWC panels.

Two hemispheres of Rugby Union and never the twain shall meet.

Its a wonder they play with the same shape ****ing ball.

Kinsella the only one saying this so far from what I can see.

He's usually reasonably accurate and not one given to sensationalism but need to see it from a few more sources before I'll start to believe it's going to happen.

I mean , I absolutely hope he's right but no one else is talking about it yet.

Get rid of reduction in bans for "good conduct" while they're at it too. Good conduct should be expected. Tack on extras for bad conduct instead.

Agree completely - "Good behaviour at the hearing" should be the minimum acceptable standard not something to be rewarded.

Definition of a bag of sh!te process. World Rugby is appealing a decision that was made in effect by World Rugby.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators, Paid Member Posts: 31,248 Mod ✭✭✭✭Podge_irl

It wasn't made, in effect, by world rugby. Its an independent judiciary panel - it is no different, in effect, then the CPS in the UK of the DPP in Ireland appealing a sentence/verdict.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators, Paid Member Posts: 31,248 Mod ✭✭✭✭Podge_irl

They appear to be quite keen to put the whole thing on a legal footing, presumably to avoid legal appeals (which I suspect would not be a quick time coming from certain teams, including Ireland).

plus get rid of the generic "50% off for first offense" as the reduction completely dependent on the severity of the incident

ie a 12 week entry point would equal a 6 game reduction, whereas a 4 week entry point equates to a 2 week reduction. why should the more egregious incident benefit from the bigger reduction.
