FOrest Crop Valuation

ANy thoughts on valuing the underlying land given that it cannot currently attract any grants?

Depends on a lot of things but really the value is in trees.

Good land equals good crops of trees. Depends on what trees are there and how old they are. Is there easy access, road built into it or far from main road, is it located far from the nearest sawmill.

There are methods to very accurately measure the yield class, that is how much timber a forest will produce, of the land which could be useful if you're buying or selling large amounts or taking out a loan against it or something.

You could throw up some vague details here and I'm sure people would probably give you a fairly good assessment.

Well what I was interested in was the actual value one puts on the land under the trees. It cannot attract grants so the value is significantly lessened. Land under peat would be valued at perhaps 350-400/acre. Interested from POV of transfer to family member.

Technically you'd be transferring land that should always be forested by law anyway you'd think...the transfer would be forest land.....not bare land/land under the trees?
