Plastering Ceiling

    Hi,

I have a query in relation to plastering a previously stippled ceiling.

I have two quotes from plasterers- one mentioned he would recommend doing it as I am plastering the walls in the room, and the other said he wouldn't do it as he felt you can't plaster over a stippled ceiling as there is too much risk of it coming down.

Can anybody tell me is it safe to plaster a previously stippled ceiling or is it to risky that ceiling could come down?

    Thank you

I have seen 1000s of stippled ceilings plastered over with great success. I would imagine it all depends on how sturdy the ceiling is

I would suggest engaging an older plasterer who would be familiar with stipple. It's like plumbing. Most younger plumbers are afraid to touch Gunbarrel pipe. They'll tell you it will all need to be ripped out. Get a plumber who actually installed it in the 80s & you will soon discover that it can easily be repaired and no need to rip out plumbing for the whole house
